I got the idea when I bought my first house, and the first Halloween there, a child came by (that I knew well) and I asked their parent if I could take their pic b/c they were just so darn cute! She was very proud of the fact I wanted to take it...so I asked the next parent, they were ok with it, and it just started from there. I also discovered it was the only time of the year when you have that many people stop by your house, so I used it as an opportunity to have impromptu invites to come in and meet everyone. It's just "my thing", parents put alot of love and money into making or buying costumes for those kids, and I just really appreciate their efforts. |

As for candy... LOVE peanut butter anything, chocolate, fruity things. Liked getting Hugs (not sure if this is a local thing- small plastic containers with a koolaid type drinkin them- they had a foil top you could just poke out and drink from) b/c you get thirsty out there walking around the neighborhood. Hated: candy corn, tootsie rolls (except the fruit flavored ones- those were good), Almond Joy, Mounds, Marshmallow cups, Hersheys with Almonds. Mom always got my 5th Avenue bars (even though I liked them) because they were her favorite, and dad got my Baby Ruth's (his favorite). Grandpap got anything with almonds or coconut. My parents handed out freezie pops for years... it was "different" but in Pittsburgh, who wants a popsicle in November? ETA: I didn't realize there was a second page, but I still think it's super creepy for anyone to take pictures of all those kids, to keep them, make an album, etc. Just strange. |

Agreed, very creepy. |

I hated Bit'o'honey. Blech. Otherwise, I pretty much liked it all. I'm not picky when it comes to candy! This will be my son's first Halloween. He's too young to remember it, but we will take him around to 4-5 of our friends' houses that live in our neighborhood. I would be very weirded out if we went to other places and someone took a picture of him in his costume. Even if we knew the people. |

Reachthe Limit...Halloween is my favorite too. :) Your house sounds like I would have stopped a lot, like change costumes and get my pic taken again just to get more candy, i'm sure its a neighborhood thing and not as creepy as it sounds on the internet....if this was a conversation in real life, I doubt it would be creepy at all.

Anything chocolate was and is my favorite! Unfavorites then and now: licorice or peanut butter kisses. Gack.
And now our porch is all decorated with pumpkins and candy corn and we can't wait for tomorrow night! Not that we'll get to see many trick-or-treaters since we take our own kids out. |
It's so weird that everyone has a neighborhood nut who gives out those tiny boxes of raisins. I thought mine was the only one!
I think taking pictures is also kinda weird? I would never allow my child to be photographed by someone giving out candy unless it was a neighbor I knew personally ... even then, nowadays you can never be too sure about even them  |

But--Halloween is short for All Hallows' Eve--in some of my older Bobbsey Twin books they were still spelling it Hallowe'en, and that a is definitely a short a! now: back to plotting how I will gank some chocolate out of my kids' bags. |

The GC troublemakers were just following AlfaFrog's lead when she was the first to call it creepy, b/c they start going into withdrawal when they can't cause trouble on every thread that anyone posts to. It's kind of like when one dog starts barking in the neighborhood in the middle of the night, the rest of them start to bark and none of them really know why. They get their buddies who moderate the thread to remove everyone else's posts but their own, and that is why they post here and not on other forums, where the threads get deleted altogether. |

I still say, and I'm sure this post will be deleted as were a couple others, that maybe people should keep a close watch of you because you never know what's going on in people's heads. |
