We danced to "My Best Friend" by Tim McGraw because it was the first song we ever danced to.

Oh my goodness, I never want to hear the following songs as first dance songs EVER AGAIN:

"God Bless The Broken Road" - Rascal Flatts
"So Amazed" -Lonestar

It seems like the last 4 or so weddings I've been to have had either of those 2 songs. I a little sick of them, lol.

Whenever I've thought of my hypothetical first dance, I've always thought of "At Last" by Etta James.

I think the "fun" first dances are the best ones. You know, the ones where the couple breaks out in the middle of a sappy song and starts doing the running man to "Ice Ice Baby." Nothing says love like that.

Every wedding I've been to in the past few years has had "At Last" and I think it is over used and cliche for weddings now.

Sidenote: I find it funny when the couple uses "At Last" when they've only been dating for like 4 months prior to getting engaged. At last, after 4 months of dating, your love has come along!

One of my friends did a choreographed dance to "Walk this Way" and I thought it was fantastic.

That's totally going to be Win at Life's song, isn't it?

WTH, choreography at weddings? The wedding I planned, there was no choreographed dancing, and any future weddings I may have, no choreographed dancing.

I must be an old fuddy duddy.

This was back before the kind of "trend" of choreographed dancing hit (with the show "Rock the Reception" coming out).

Now, when a couple breaks out in choreography I'm like "really?"

HotDamnImAPhiMu 02-18-2009 11:09 PM

What if it's Vanilla Ice choreography? Still no?

ZTABullwinkle 02-18-2009 11:26 PM

Our first dance was "Feels Like Home" from How to Lose A Guy in 10 Days, the first move we watched together. Little did I know it is a popular ZTA from Preference.

I have a standing wager of $100 that "At Last" will be played at any given wedding I attend. I'm up lifetime, and it's not even close.

You guys really need to expand your cheese repertoire - Lonestar? Celine Dion? D'Angelo? Get f-ed.

As I see it, you have three main options:

1 - You have "your song" with a significant other. You're probably 13 if you do, so I'll assume this isn't true. Note that this generally becomes "I WISH this was our song!" from the woman's point of view.

2 - You're doing something super cheesy because you think you should. This is by far the worst, as it is really a "I've dreamed of this FOREVER!"-type semi-Bridezilla move. Most of you fall into this category probably - sorry!

3 - You're a hipster douche and want to go for irony (such as "Mother" by Danzig for the mom's dance). This is an awkward move, to say the least, but at least you'll have PBR and shitty sideburns at the reception.

I'm scared we've been attending the same weddings.

I just don't understand why there has to be "a song" at all. I thought the truly hipster douches would wear Misfits t-shirts and all the bridesmaids would be channeling Bettie Page or show up in their roller derby outfits. I want to go to a wedding where someone plays Dr. Octagon or Too $hort.

WAL (I have to abreviate now) hasn't decided on hers yet, surprisingly.

My boyfriend jokes that if we get married, he's going to get Michael Buble to sing at our wedding.:p

But even if I have to settle for a recording, I love his song "Everything" and I'd probably pick that for our first song.

KSUViolet06 02-19-2009 12:53 AM

He does a rendition of "How Sweet it is to Be Loved by You" that I like alot.
