Just business
It's just business. The Delta's are the largest Greek letter organization in the country, Black or White. So the market for their stuff is significantly larger. The same is true for the AKA with regard to the size of their organization.
The best way to counteract this is to demonstrate that your organization can move innovative products. Work with your chapters to place large orders with these vendors. When vendors see that there is money in selling your nalia, they will sell it. Also, your national office should maintain an online store where sorors can buy the newest stuff. When you see a hot item, pass that on to who ever runs the national store. When vendors stock for the National office, they'll likely keep merchandise on hand locally as well. |
I also do notice this problem.
Last summer I went to this place called "The Guild" near Howard and I was flabbergasted at the lack of Zeta para. I am a true shop-a-holic and I am willing to spend money on nice things but these establishments whether online or physical locations need to realize they are selling themselves short by not selling and/or not selling quality items for Zeta and SGRho. These places are only going by the "stereotype" it seems. All Zetas do not wear XL+ nor are all Zetas fashionably-retarded. I got on CollegeCrib.com some time ago and saw a fly jacket but they were only selling them for 3 other organizations. I think the best way to put a handle on this is to definitely VOICE to the point it nags as some folks previously stated and start our own ish.... These establishments NEED TO STEP THEIR GAME UP!! |
Same problem
Sorors/Frat, I have the same problem here in Greenville, NC. The supply is very, very limited. We have a book store downtown, but they mostly supply to NPC. It's crazy. We have an African Art store in the mall and it's Delta/AKA heaven. You have to ask the owner to order any Zeta 'nalia. I'm just going to start making my own and order from the internet.

Just a suggestion
Would it be feasible for some of you and your sorors get together and try to make an outlet for Zeta para? When I was in school and there was not enough of anything we black folx needed, a couple of students got together made a clearinghouse of sorts and offered what we needed. They bought the stuff wholesale and sold it to us retail. They donated the money to a charity or a cause for enlightenment of minority students on campus.
It was just a thought. |

I hope y'all dont mind me crashing in wih my little .08 cents...
but Distinctive Specialties here in Charlotte has some really nice "professional" Zeta 'nalia, like desk sets and nice pens and such. I'm actually REALLY jealous because the desk set I reallyreallyreally want doesn't come in an AKA version, only ZPB. Anyone in the area should check them out, as they always have a lot of nice things there anyway. They're black owned and registered NPHC vendors, and they also have a lot of nalia for NC and SC HBCU's. |
