There is actually a new book out by Chris Miller about Animal House and what it was like to actually be there.

Got one for you: "Epsilon Zeta" by Jock Young
I've really enjoyed reading "Epsilon Zeta" a new novel by Jock Young. I don't know him, but he's written a fictional portrayal of his fraternity at my school, Florida State in Tallahassee.
Young only thinly disguises the street names, business and geography of Tallahassee around the school. Anyone who knows the town and campus will instantly recognize all the landmarks. Young does, however, use actual names of different fraternities and sororities in the story line. All, that is, except his own. Young is a Sigma Chi but he calls his fictional fraternity "Epsilon Zeta." Epsilon Zeta is the chapter designation for the Sigma Chis at FSU. "Epsilon Zeta" is not a comedy but it is very entertaining with what I thought was a surprise ending. Here's a review of the book by some writer at Penn State. http://www.collegian.psu.edu/archive...06darts-04.asp |
books on Greek Life
Anybody know of books about Greek-letter organizations at specific campuses? I'm referring to all rather than just "Greek" ones because there are commonalities among them, even if just in name.

Fraternal Brotherhood book
This is interesting. I was unaware of Greek activity in high schools until my Section Chair (Alpha Phi Omega) at the time I learned this who attended my high school 5 years ahead of me told me that the Z Club was almost like a sorority. I believe it was one of a few or the only single-sex de jure organizations that was not sports. In looking it up, I learned that the Z Club arose when the Key Club (not apparently at my high school, but elsewhere) would not admit girls. The Key Club is the high school arm of Kiwanis, which is a service organization for adults which also has Circle K for colleges.
