you forgot

- they didnt want to be part of the ugly/fat girl sorority (i've heard girls at my school say that)

- they wanted to party with hot guys, so they went to the hot sorority

- they know that if they associate themselves with "the hot girls", then people wuold automatically think they were hot ....even if they werent hot

Bobby, you obviously know nothing about sorority life.

If you want to look hot, you stand next to fat girls.

Let's say they don't have family or friends in that sorority and live in a state where there are several sororities with pretty large alumni associations and these sororities also offer AI.

So it comes down to colors, mascot, motto?

Or is there anything else?

And what's stupider - basing your choice on colors, mascot, motto or also taking into account some type of stereotype on the national strength of a sorority?

HMMMMMM

I know some girls who did that. They ultimately resigned because they kept losing in everything, and people would always say, " oh man you are in a sorority with a bunch of cows" and they got sick of it. they usually ended just being fraternity rats lol

LOL the thing is. EVERY girl in that pic was hot. So she probably went around going, " we are so hot blah blah blah"

and then other people would say, " sure, your sorority is hot. but you're a cow"

In this case, the ratio of hot girls of ugly girls is greater, so thus the sororities reputation is not hurt

If you had any credibility before, (which I believe you didn't), you lost it just now.

Thank you.

In GC, everyone is made from the same mold, is just as smart as each other, and just as successful.

Of course not, I looked at other things like the purpose, the philanthropy and how I got along with the girls locally. But I didn't know what Alpha Phi's "image" was nationally...I still don't have a clue what people see Alpha Phi as.

My point was you can see how different chapters of the same group can be, the different people they attract. It makes it hard to define a national image when everyone is so different.

Some chapters are known as All for Free

:) Those are my favorite chapters. All chapters should thrive to be like that

The thing is all sororities and fraternities are "Good". And helping cure breast cancer over heart disease isn't "Better."

So really you are left with not too many things to base your opinion on. And you're not joining a college chapter so you don't have a reputation or image on that campus; it's an Alum chapter which can consist of women from several campuses and regions and age groups.

Exactly. But I felt a connection to Alpha Phi's philanthropy b/c it affected people in my family, whereas I may not have had that kind of connection to another sorority philanthropy. So it meant more to me.

Joining as an alum really drives home the lack of image since, as you said, alum chapters are made up of women from different chapters, regions and age groups. So it's a real mix of things and image doesn't play into it and things like the local women and how you mesh with them, the opportunity to get involved in the chapter (or lack thereof), the view the sorority has on what their aim is, the philanthropy, the activeness of alums etc...all that plays a part in an AI decision, moreso than at the collegiate level I think.

Those are just some reasons why the image thing seems kind of pointless to me. It's always going to be different, no one's ever going to agree and in the end, it doesn't really matter.

And you could have picked Alpha Phi because of the colors as well.

And since an alum chapter is so diverse, it forces you to think about the sorority nationally and to form an image of them.

I mean heck the fraternity KA has an image nationally to me. Alpha Delta Phi and Psi Upsilon conjure up images. Or how about the machine/skull&bones? That sure conjures up a lot of images for people. It may not be true on every campus, but it doesn't have to be, since it's a national image/stereotype.

What point are you trying to make about AI exactly? That it's pointless, stupid and just for ugly, fat wannabe women who couldn't get into a sorority otherwise?? Or that national reputations truly exist?

Also, being an Alpha Phi (not AI), I know that our colors aren't particularly attractive to me aesthetically (sp?), and our mascot isn't riveting...so i doubt that is ever someone's basis for their decision. Collegiate or not.
