Well, it might be bleak on campus, but those of us with indelible letters will carry on the name forever. Thanks for the well-wishes. The beauty is (and this has been touched on above) that Kappa Sigma Phi has its name etched in Duquesne lore, so we can honestly never go away. Go look at the Grotto -- our name is on a plaque there. Go to the chapel and see our dedication to Father Crowley there. Go to Palumbo Center and see the bas relief sculpture of Father Crowley in the entrance way...and of course, look at your Duquesne ring. A Kap designed that.

We'll surely keep trying though.

Was part of the frat life 89-94. Vice- President Beta Pi Sigma local. We had such a great time. Had the best looking little sisters and the best parties. We were on probation with Father Hogan for 1 year. We had a house which I lived in on Locust that had a blow out party in 1992. $30,000 worth of damage because prior to the party the landlord would not re-new the lease, AND it wasnt Schwartz!!! Garrett Jordan and his crew took over from there. The stories are long and great. Loafers, fights, intramurales, the Goon Squad. Also, I remeber the demise of the Zebes was cause they where the first to go "no hazing" frat. The locals and sheiks remained faithful to hazing in a sense. Zebes were thought of as "weak" frat. I remember the night everyone left Loafers and went up to Towers to confront the Zebes. It was ugly. The locals all got along, sheiks were on and off. APD's were good guys also. Lambs and Zetas were the "hot" sororities. Beta's were a small group but very tight. Never had more than 25 members active. But were all very close. Names like Nino, Scott "mope" Airey, Gary, Paul Healey, Beerman, Garret Jordan, Jay Wytiaz, Tim Stefanick, Greg Wa-Wa, Little Man, Jason Briscoe, Jamie Williamson, Cory Smetak, Mario Caffario, more than I can remember. Also John Levetis, owner of Loafers at the time, treated us real well. Any Betas or goon squad members out there????

what's the status on kappa sigma phi at duquesne university? does anybody know?

Last I heard the Kaps were disbanded. There was some problems, I heard, concerning a hazing incident. One of my friend, who is a Kap alumni, was real vague when I mentioned the disbanding of the fraternity

At the risk of showing my age, when I was at Duquesne the following fraternities were on campus: Alpha Phi Delta, Beta Pi Sigma, Kaps, Gamma Phi, Zeta Beta Tau, and Tau Kappa Epileson. Sigma Tau Gammas came to campus when I was still there.

The sororities on campus were Zeta Tau Alpha, Alpha Phi, Alpha Sigma Tau, Tau Delta Tau, Alpha Gamma Delta and Lambs (whose name I cannot remember).

The major social clubs were Sheiks and Playboys for men and later a women's group, Mynx was formed.

The pharmacy GLOs were real tight: Phi Delta Chi (maroon and gold) and Kappa Sigma (?) (red and grey) were both co-ed and there was women's pharmacy fraternity, whose name I have forgotten but which was similar to Lambs.

Alpha Phi Omega called itself a service fraternity but acted as if it were a Greek Letter Organization. It was militantly all male

Wow.. that was a while ago.. to me, the Sig Taus (Sigma Tau Gamma) seemed that they were there forever.. hee he..

The Lambs were Sigma Lambda Phi... already disbanded and replaced with Sigma Kappa.

The red and gray pharmacy GLO was Kappa Psi.. and the female pharmacy fraternity was Lambda Kappa Sigma.

I guess some things change and some things don't... change is good... but when change is forced, then it isn't good...

Although I was not a Duquesne University long (was there summer before Freshman year 1976 up to Summer 1977) I was the Pledge Captain for the Class of 1977 Kappa Sigma Phi at Duquesne University. I still stay in touch with a couple of the guys that I pledged with...Spo and not too long ago, Brainz. Those days were some of the most fun days of my life. Back in those days, the Kapps were THE BEST fraternity. I had helped to broker the deal that brought Derby Days from another Fraternity (can't remember which one) that had gone belly up. DUQKAP -- who are you? I pledged in SPC '89. My big is Doberman (he came to my wedding several years ago -- looks the same, just a shorter curly mullet). I joined the Yahoo group and was able to reconnect with Big Joe about the status of the fraternity. I am also on the Alumni Advisory Board for the College of Arts, so I am on campus a few times a year. Whenever we want to make another alumni go at reactivation, I'll do what I can!

The current male greek organizations on Duquesne's Campus are Delta Chi, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Alpha Phi Delta, Alpha Tau Omega, Phi Kappa Theta, Sigma Tau Gamma, Gamma Phi (Local) , Tau Kappa Epsilon (colony), Alpha Delta (colony) and Sigma Nu is expected to recolonize this spring. For sororities it is Sigma Kappa, Alpha Phi, Alpha Sigma Tau, Alpha Gamma Delta, Gamma Phi Beta, Delta Zeta, Zeta Tau Alpha and I think thats it. There are also a bunch of professionals/service like Kappa Epsilon and Phi Delta Chi that act almost like social organizations.

These posts were made a number of years ago, but I wonder if anyone ever comes back to look for new information.

The Betas at Duquesne had their first reunion in Oct-2010. The turnout was pretty good and I expect that Homecoming 2011 will be even better.

A Beta Pi Sigma Scholarship Fund has been established to help keep the name of our Fraternity alive even though it has not been active for many years.

I'm currently a Sigma Nu at Duquesne University. I'm surprised that nobody mentioned us at all in this thread. I read through the who thing hoping to find some history on my chapter, but no luck.

Just an update on where we are now. We were kicked off campus in 2007 for a hazing incident. National got an anonymous complaint about the paddling that went on back in those days. From what I'm told, the university did everything they could to keep us on campus, but Headquarters decided to make an example of us. We were recolonized in Dec. 2009 by a few of the pledges that were hazed in '07 but remained stagnant for a year. My pledge class(SPC10) turned everything around and we pretty much rebuilt from scratch. Now we're one of the top groups on campus in almost every area of student life, consistently winning or placing 2 in Carnival and Greek Week, Making 5 star, and running everything from IFC to Orientation.

The Current Chapters are:

Fraternity: Sigma Nu, Phi Kappa Theta, Delta Chi, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Alpha Tau Omega, Tau Kappa Epsilon, Gamma Phi(Local), Iota Phi Theta, Sigma Tau Gamma, Alpha Phi Delta, Alpha Delta, and Alpha Epsilon Pi just colonized.

Sorority: Zeta Tau Alpha, Delta Zeta, Alpha Gamma Delta, Sigma Kappa, Gamma Phi Beta, Alpha Sigma Tau, and Alpha Phi

Interestingly, a couple years ago a servive fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega(Which several of were probably a members of), broke off with two other chapters and formed the Alpha Delta national social fraternity. Gamma Phi was huge my freshman year but they're about to die off if they don't make some major changes real soon.

I've been a major player in all corners of Campus Life and especially Greek Life since I came to Duquesne. If you want to know anything about how the school as it is now, I'm more than happy to answer questions or participate in conversation. I see most things that happen behind the scenes and can probably tell you more than most people.

On the other side, a lot of our local history was lost when we recolonized so if you know anything worth mentioning about the old SigNu, I would really appreciate it.

I seem to remember Sigma Nu being around during the 1982-83 school year. I was in Grad School at the time at DU and remember them fielding an intramural softball team in the spring.
