I have my G1. I have never really needed to get a license. Like NYC, it's not really needed here. You can get everywhere on public transportation. It's expensive to park downtown, and insurance rates are more expensive in the GTA than say, Northern Ontario. But I think I'm going to have to get my license soon. I'm sure my boyfriend is tired of driving my sorry ass around.

I had my G1 since I was 17. My first road exam...I failed it so bad..I'm not even about to tell y'all what the test instructor said to me :o

I get to Detroit, and I found out that here, you have to drive because their transit system sucks. I made several attempts to take the road test (one of them resulting in the permenant breakdown of my first car). To make a long story short, last time I went to the secretary of state, they thought my G1 was a drivers license, and switched it for me. Never had to take the road test.

Nice! I have yet to take my G1 exit test. I got my first G1 when I was 17. I let it expire. I didn't get it again February of this year. My plan was to get my G2 this september, but that so didn't happen. My BF is buying a new car soon and he said he would teach me how to drive. The good think about letting your G1 expire, is that I don't have to wait the probabtion period to get my G2.

Yeah, I meant NYC...I figure you need a car everywhere else. I just wish that the rail system in Atlanta ran like that. But here, you NEED a car to get to a lot of places.

My sister stayed in Brooklyn awhile (neither one of us had been to NYC before that) and once she called me saying "These trains never stop! Did you know you can go from state to state on these!?" It was too funny.

First permit - 16
First attempt at road test - 19
Finally passed and got license - 21

I was mobility-challenged. Although I have done well because I have had my license for 16 years and I have never had an accident and I just got my first speeding ticket this year.

I had friends with cars at home and when I went off to college so a license wasn't really an issue at the time.

Now having a license and car is a necessity in Memphis because riding the bus is not an option. We don't have excellent public transportation like other cities.

I got my learners two days after my b-day and got my license two months later.

I was 17 when I got mine. I could have got it earlier at 16 but I refused to drive my brother around to his basketball games (the only time I could really use the car)!

I was at the MVA ON my 16th birthday. It was that serious.

Got mine at 17... but I wondering if that new govermental proposal will go through - the one denying full licenses to highschool drop outs... while I do think it's a bad idea; I gotta admit that the government at least came up with something that'll be a serious impetus to staying is school...

16...about 11 days away from turning 17. I wanted to get mine sooner (you could take your whole drivers ed in public school), but mom wanted me to have private lessons--which she made me pay for half

I would still like to know where, and why, you don't get an unrestricted license until age 21. Curiosity and all that...

To add to my previous post: I got my first car at age 21. My mother gave up driving and gave me her car. I still drive it; it's 15 years old, but it's a solid car. It's gotten beat up round the edges, but it's an Acura, and the Japanese know how to build cars.

I got my second car (read: car loan and all) at age 25. That time, I went with Buick. As a result, I've learned my lesson; I'm not touching GM again with a barge pole.
