Congrats to Sigma Kappa on both opportunities!

Anybody else have colonization news to report? I don't think everyone posts on GC about them and there are about 25 awesome schools expanding this year according to NPC bulletin.

Should be something of interest for all 26 groups and from what I've seen so far this academic year, 6-15 groups are throwing their hat in the ring at each school.

I think the new chapter in PA makes it our 10th in that state.....I am also really pumped for the chapter in WI. It gets a little lonely here in MN with the only chapter in the upper-midwest being at Iowa State! Now maybe people will actually recognize our letters when I wear them in public!!

I think its one thing to post which schools are open (because that is public info found in the NPC bulletin) and then up to individual groups to say if they have submitted, are presenting, etc etc.

I have a general question for those of you who participate in extension - how do panhellenics tend to view orgs that submit a packet, are chosen to present, and then pull out? I would think that would be very frustrating, since other viable options may have been turned down in favor of the org. Is this looked down upon, or do the panhellenics seem to understand that circumstances can arise that prevent an org from following through?

Do you think orgs tend to send in packets even when they are not seriously interested? Or is it more likely that they are interested and then realize later that they are not a good fit?

I just ask because it seems to happen a lot.

Ok, so where do you get the NPC Bulletin. I couldn't find it online. What other information is found in the bulletin? Is it educational to read if you are an advisor, etc?

Just curious...I keep hearing about it, but I don't really know what it is.

I go with the last suggestion, they send packets because they are interested and then through further research or discussions, issues come up that make the opportunity less appealing do they drop out. This just happened - it was before presenters were selected tho. Deadlines for packet submissions can be 2-4 weeks from date of bulletin which does not give each group all the time need to be absoluntely sure the opportunity is for them.

The NPC Extension Bulletin, published 7-10 times a year by the NPC Extension Committee is emailed to approximately five people in each of the 26 NPC groups. NPC Delegates, Extension person or whomever each NPC group asks to be added.

When I mentioned "25 campuses" being open, I was l giving an approximate # of campuses listed since September in the bulletin. Many of them have been discussed in threads, Dusquene, Marquette, Carnegie Mellon, Dartmouth. Others may not have been discussed WPI, Nova Southeastern, U of LaVerne, Coastal Carolina etc.

The bulletin only lists the opportunity - basic campus statistics of membership, srudent population, recruitment #s, housing requirements and a university or panhellenic contact person for more information.

Many of the open campuses this year have enjoyed receiving between 6 and 15 packets each so it is super competitive.

As for groups who are selected to present and then back out. Think of it like this, If you are campus extension committee, you are going to select three to present and wait to get an yes answer before telling the rest, no thank you. In the case of one of the schools above, there was a different NPC group in the initial round of three that dropped out and #4 stepped in to present. Guess who was invited to colonize? (rhetorical question) None of the rest of the groups were told no until they had their three presenters with acceptances.

Hopefully that answers as many questions as exist here. If not, feel free to PM me. I don't always see all the threads and didn't know ole miss glitter had asked the question of me earlier in this thread.

Update 2/28/06: Sigma Kappa Colonization at Marquette

According to the article (above), 40 women accepted bids to become part of the colony. It's interesting that members of the other NPC sororities at Marquette -- Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Phi, Alpha Xi Delta and Pi Beta Phi -- will be serving as "Panhellenic Big Sisters" to help introduce the Sigma Kappa colony members to Greek life.

Recruitment will continue, with SK national representatives on campus to answer questions and interview women interested in Sigma Kappa.

Panhellenic Big Sisters for a colony is a little more common than people may think. It can be an awesome experience. FWIW - Panhellenic Big Sisters are not encouraged to buy presents and such.
