One more thing:

PEE WEE'S PLAYHOUSE!

RedRoseSAI 10-15-2005 09:41 AM

Wearing black bolero hats a la Ms Gibson

Fingerless gloves, a la Madonna

Shredded jeans

Spectravision and On TV - the precursors to cable!

Friday Night Videos

Wired, not wireless, remotes

Dangermouse on Nickelodeon

Sweet Valley High books (with illustrations on the cover, not photos of the TV actors)

Jelly bracelets - I remember looping two together so it would look like you were wearing a bracelet and a ring. That hurt!

Tinted moose for your hair - there was a gold one for blonde hair and a red one for brunettes.

I also remember when the first CD player came out, and the day that a strange "VHS" section popped up at our local video store.

I think the 80s are a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live then (again).

RedRoseSAI 10-15-2005 09:44 AM

Ooh, I forgot...

Guess? Jean jackets

Liz Claiborne purses

...If you weren't sporting those at my school in 1987, your ass got kicked (or at least ridiculed).

cutiepatootie 10-15-2005 09:57 PM

Judy Blume books!

AOIIBrandi 10-15-2005 10:08 PM

Popples

Swatch and Coca-Cola shirts

Top Gun

Portable electric keyboards

Commodore 64

Just watched "Risky Business" on AMC. Joel opens a beer that has a pull off tab rather than a pop top, and he wears top siders with no socks throughout the movie. Oh, and Tom Cruise was normal back then.

wrigley 10-19-2005 12:49 PM

21 Jump Street

Cabbage Patch Dolls

Cabbage Patch dance

Day-glo anything

Breakdancing

Spandex in neon colors

Has anyone else ever seen cassette tapes (no, not floppies) used to store data?

Yup. I worked at a place in college had an ancient machine for backing up data. It used a tape drive.

LOL!!!

I have to admit, I NEVER liked Tom Cruise! He was always just... full of himself, I guess.

Now that's something we can be nostalgic about. Anyone else see All The Right Moves when it was in the theater? Or go buy Ray Bans right after seeing Top Gun? (Hoping they'd make me look like Kelly McGillis. They didn't.)

Here's a song you guys might find funny...

BOWLING FOR SOUP 1985

Woohoohoo
Woohoohoo

Debbie just hit the wall
she never had it all
one Prozac a day
husbands a CPA
her dreams went out the door
when she turned twenty four
only been with one man
what happen to her plan?

She was gonna be an actress
she was gonna be a star
she was gonna shake her ass
on the hood of white snake’s car
her yellow SUV is now the enemy
looks at her average life
and nothing has been alright since

Bruce Springsteen, Madonna
way before Nirvana
there was U2 and Blondie
and music still on MTV
her two kids in high school
they tell her that she’s uncool
cuz she's still preoccupied
with 19, 19, 1985

Woohoohoo
(1985)
Woohoohoo

She’s seen all the classics
she knows every line
Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink
even Saint Elmo’s Fire
she rocked out to wham
not a big Limp Bizkit fan
thought she’d get a hand
on a member of Duran Duran

Where’s the mini-skirt made of snake skin
and who’s the other guy that's singing in Van Halen
when did reality become T.V.
what ever happen to sitcoms, game shows
(on the radio was)

Bruce Springsteen, Madonna
way before Nirvana
there was U2 and Blondie
and music still on MTV
her two kids in high school
they tell her that she’s uncool
cuz she's still preoccupied
with 19, 19, 1985

Woohoohoo

She hates time make it stop
when did Motley Crue become classic rock?
And when did Ozzy become an actor?
Please make this stop
Stop!
And bring back

Bruce Springsteen, Madonna
way before Nirvana
there was U2 and Blondie
and music still on MTV
her two kids in high school
they tell her that she’s uncool
cuz she's still preoccupied
