When did smoking make someone public enemy number 1?

Now, now. I don't.

How often has a guy told you that you're beautiful?

Because I think you are beautiful.

WELL, back on the topic of smoking in letters...

We have a definite rule against drinking in anything related to Tri-Delt, but as for smoking it's a little different. We were told when we were new members to never smoke and walk. Smoke and sit or smoke and stand all that you want, just don't do it while you're moving. It's more of an issue of respecting other people than about looking "trashy" I suppose. In general, I don't think smoking is trashy... I just don't do it.

I think it's been getting like that for a few years.

In Austin they have now passed the no-smoking ordinance.... No more smoking in the bars! Wow.

Okay...I'm confused, can you explain the smoking and walking thing?

I remember hearing something like that too. I guess it is considered less offensive to others if you're staying in one place and not spreading the smoke to everyone you walk by?

I'm not sure..... Maybe some people would see it as less trashy that way. Seems pretty much the same to me, but that's just me.

There used to be (or maybe still are) rules about eating and walking if you were in a sorority.

PM_Mama00 10-04-2005 02:23 PM

We smoked in our letters, as did members of other orgs. It wasn't a problem.

And the smoking and walking thing... I tried not to do it on campus because I didn't want to walk past someone who doesn't smoke. It was just disrespectful. But then again the smoking ashtrays are right next to the doors of buildings, and that's where we all stood.

I don't think it's trashy, but then again it's hard to go to a bar and see people NOT smoke.

I've never smoked even once in my life, but I can remember being told as a teenager that no woman of any pretense of class would dream of smoking while walking on the street - it made them look like hookers. Eating anything besides an ice cream cone or hot dog on the street was basically the same thing. Beyond that, I think I'll stay out of this one!

emleepc 10-04-2005 02:24 PM

At my college, a couple of the sororities could smoke in letters, provided they were sitting down with their legs crossed.......I didn't really get that one though.
We couldn't smoke or drink in letters......not that it never happened. But most people at least attempted to abide by that rule.

OtterXO 10-04-2005 02:25 PM

Those are some strange rules. Although my chapter used to have a rule banning open toe shoes...it makes no sense to me.

Hookers? Hookers? Pacific Beach Hookers? :D

There was never a problem of girls smoking in letters, everyone did it. Drinking in letters is a different story.
