I personally don't see the problem with conversation. No this will not change anything but if it will open the doors to something else then let it be. It is not like I would be on my undergrad campus campaigning if I was not on line so really we are not wasting time. The only way people will let anyone get rid of glo's is if they are banned by state/federal law. Even if we are all city chapters not bound to any campus. As long as we live in America racism will be an issue. Not because we on this board make it, but because it is. As long as we are civil I say keep talking, maybe we will get some type of understanding. If we never talk we will thrive on the stereotpyes we have of one another. That is not just unproductive but it will take us back hundreds of years. So to all my greek family in the struggle, talk on!

And please don't cite the tired "I was denied admission/a job at XYX University/Corporation because some inferior ***** got my job" line.

From where I sit, the few institutions blacks do control have been/are open to people of all backgrounds. It's just that "people of all backgrounds," especially whites, have been loathe to align themselves with black institutions, by and large.

Discgoddess you are implying that you must be in a position of power to be a racist. Many members of the Ku Klux Klan are not in any positions of power at all. I believe racism is any form of treating someone differently because of their race, and that is wrong. However, I do not believe that we will be completely equal as a society until all labels are gone. And to all black greeks that don't appreciate other races in the orgs, I just want to say you could be losing a really good brother or sister based on the color of their skin. Imagine your best friend, then think of them as a different race, would you still love them? People are all the same

It is interesting that you pose this question, becuase I was thinking about it the other day myself. We have a white member in our alumni chapter, and I have to say that I really don't have a problem with him being there. He is active, pays his dues, and contributes.

As long as these white members understand that our organizations are founded on principles that uplift the black kommunity. I welcome any and all help, becuase there is so much need in our kommunities, especially here in DC. If we as a kommunity were to take care of our own, maybe outside help would not be needed, but I digress.

I know that there are those who would disgree, and I know of some brothers who feel differently, but that is simply my take on it.

Also, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was the First BGLO to have a provision in it's constitution that precluded members from barring perspectives based on race.

My founders saw the evils that were visited upon them by whites, and instead of addopting the same flawed way of doing things, they charted their own course, and rose above the discrimination and hatred that was so prevelant in those days (and still happens today).
