Your appropriate response would be "oui." :)

A few minor changes were made a year later during the Flag Day 1924 Conference. It was not until June 22, 1942 that Congress passed a joint resolution which was amended on December 22, 1942 to become Public Law 829; Chapter 806, 77th Congress, 2nd session. Exact rules for use and display of the flag (36 U.S.C. 173-178) as well as associated sections (36 U.S.C. 171) Conduct during Playing of the National Anthem, (36 U.S.C. 172) the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, and Manner of Delivery were included.

Now I don't really have any strong feelings on this the way I do on some other forms of limitation of free speech, but I guess I just don't really GET it. Burning the flag is a non-violent form of protest. By banning flag-burning, you're not changing the protester's opinions about our country in any way (or at least not any way for the positive). It doesn't accomplish anything -- except to maybe make the protester more angry, only now his way of burning off steam will take a different turn, perhaps one that is now uglier or more violent.

And I agree with valkyrie -- anybody with a little creativity can think of at least ten ways to decimate a flag that don't involve flames at all. Why is burning so much worse than any of the rest of them that we all need a law to protect ourselves from it?

again, it's a law that the president can make the rules or customs pertaining to the flag...

No, there are ways to Display the Flag. Kid Rock did a sh*t Job at the NFL 1/2 Time and I was pissed.

But since so many are against it, I will take down My Flag Pole and Flag:(

The 3/4 Viet Nam Wall is In KC, Ks. I went to see it with My Best Friends Wife as He was working Security there.

I figured I would never be able to see the original in Washington, DC. So, I felt a need to go see it.

I am sure that many have seen pictures of THe Wall. But to walk by it and see the Names of 58,000 + etched on the Black Granite is very touching. I know I got misty eyes and did not know a one of them. But these Brave Men and Women are remembered for what they did for our Country.

There was also a special Pictorial of People from Kansas Killed and a Pictorial of those lost in Iraq.

I also agree in a sense that there is no need for a Legislative Amendment, But there needs something to be done for Showing Respect.

Tom I'm going to have to go with the saying "you can't legislate respect" - for a more lasting and meaningful respect for the symbols of a nation, people need to be educated. This is borrowing from a debate that briefly appeared up here about similar legislation... until the Queen stated that 'education not legislation can only endear true respect, for the meaning and spirit that the regalia and symbols of the Canadian history and nation' (paraphrased).

Personally I have always held the belief that a return to "civics leasons" should be re-examined - instead of being told of what the symbols mean; and what sacrifices are represented by those symbols - students should be allowed a more personal experience...

You could try your local Boy Scout troop. The scouts have a ceremony to dispose of worn flags respectfully.

so yea, I think I want to open a can of worms.....

why would anyone have a problem with an organization that protects (or attempts to) our civil liberties? Granted I do believe that they sometimes take it to the extremes, but you also need the extremes to find the middle.

and now I sound like a bleeding-heart liberal. When in reality I am a very conservative person.
