Idk if its okay to revive an old thread, but Stony Brook University used to have Phi Chi Epsilon and Epsilon Sigma Phi, Sigma Iota Sigma is now the only one left.

The school has done very little to help the locals, which were all multicultural orgs.

Stony Brook's policy makes it incredibly difficult to revive (or start) a local (it might even straight up ban it, I can't remember), and its Greek Life has already been struggling... but if this year's homecoming is any indication, it seems like the BGLO's are making a comeback

I notice the local thing depends on the school. NYU is all national now but a lot of the CUNYs in the city mainly have citywide local sororities or multicultural/D9 orgs.

In the SUNYs upstate there are locals that exists alongside national chapters, and some are even as old as many national organizations, like Sigma Gamma Phi for example.

I wish there were more stats on local orgs... it seems like Greek Life is wayyyy less popular than it used to be, at least in New York, but it could just be a temporary slump from the pandemic...

I wonder if there are any new locals, or if we are trending towards the locals slowly being replaced by Nationals. It feels next to impossible to start a local at a specific campus, so maybe we will see more city/county based chapters?

I notice with the many multicultural/D9 orgs, there are within city wide chapters or will “share” a chapter with another campus. (like XYZ’s alpha alpha chapter will be on campus 1 and 2)

I haven’t seen that kind of phase out of locals just yet with CUNY’s, and only Binghamton has really taken into expansion with all kinds of fraternities and sororities.

Oh to bring up greek life; the SUNYs have expanded a little but not to a huge extent like Binghamton, which have expanded with every type of org (PHC, D9, etc.) and the private unis have done the same. But I notice the other SUNYs have very few or have underground versions that were kicked off for RMFs. I always hoped Albany would bring back all it's PHC and IFC orgs at some point so student don't turn to underground orgs.
