Now back to the original Post of thread.

Granted all of these posts are Provent setting!:)

If there is stupidity among Greeks who dont really think there will be a problem, then do a second look! "WHAT" could happen??? How will this effect us!!!!

** Please note that I am in no way unsympathetic to this young man and the injuries he suffered or anyone else for that matter. It's truly heartbreaking when anyone gets injured regardless of the cause. **

Quite frankly I'm sick and tired of these sorts of lawsuits (referring to all the stories mentioned, not just the original). When did we as a society completely do away with personal responsibility? I don't know how to drink responsibly, so I get blotto at your party and do something stupid to myself or someone else. Hey, it's not my fault! It's yours! You provided the alcohol. You should have been babysitting me!

Same thing with suing a bar &/or bartender where some a**hole gets plastered, then goes out and kills someone because he was drinking and driving. How about the woman who spills hot coffee on herself and sues McDonald's? It's not my fault I'm in debt up to my eyeballs. It's the credit card companies because they keep sending me these pre-approved applications and upping my limit.

It's not my fault I weigh 400lbs, it's Buger King's because it's all part of their plan to destroy the world by selling Double Whoppers and king-size fries. How dare they? Let's not forget the evil empire of Frito Lay with it's sinister potato chips and other tasty fat filled snack foods. No, no, it has nothing to do with the fact that I can't push myself away from the table, can't pass up a drive-thru, eat nothing but junk food and never get any more exercise than hauling my butt of the couch and head to the cupboard for another bag of double stuffed Oreos. It's Playstation's fault that I'm a loser who at age 35 still lives with my parents and doesn't have a job. I'm addicted I tell you and PS2 did it to me on purpose! (I'm just waiting for that lawsuit to happen.)

All this garbage out there where people are getting multi-million dollar settlements because they are stupid and brought it on themselves. Then there are folks who have a legit injury claims and they get tossed out on technicalities or some other BS reason.

We've got accept part of the blame. For every stupid million-dollar settlement, there is a stupid jury of our peers who make the decision.

Any attempts to limit awards brings out the cry babies (probably financed by trial laawyers), and they find some case somewhere where a poor single mother only got $10,000 to raise her five kids.

I am the President of the housing corporation which owns and operates the Sigma Chi Fraternity at Oregon State University. There seem to be a few inaccuracies in the reporting of this unfortuante incident.

First and foremost, Sigma Chi extends its hopes and prayers to Kevin Manning and his family. Kevin was injured when he dove headfirst into a shallow pool at the Beta Pi chapter of Sigma Chi.

The pool was set up for an approved party at the house on Saturday. Kevin, who had not attended the party, was passing by the house early Sunday morning with some friends. He dove headfirst into the pool before anyone could stop him. Authorities say that he injured himself when he dove in.

Authorities also indicate that Kevin may have been drinking before he had the accident. While this incident did not involve any violation of drinking laws on the part of Sigma Chi, we are saddened that Kevin’s injury may be alcohol related. We recognize that alcohol abuse has become an epidemic among college students and, as a result, Sigma Chi Fraternity takes a very hard line on alcohol abuse in our chapters.

Certainly incidents such as this have an impact upon our Greek system as a whole. While this particular incident was a result of poor judgment on the part of a non-member, trespassing upon the premises, Sigma Chi will likely bear the burden of dealing with this issue for years to come.

So not only is he a stupid drunk, he's a jerk who trespasses on other people's property.

Darwinism at work.

All of the last several posts are true -- but the fact is that the chapter had the pool on its property and some jury will find them negligent.

You can bet on it.

I am not calling judgement in this case, but there seems to not be any inacuarcys here. It did happen on SX Property even though it was after the party. Approved or not as it seems.

osusig, as a Member of LX Z Housing Corporation I too can understand.

The thing is using good judgement in the heat of the Party, Before, During, and After is the main problem here.

When something of this magnatued happens, it is posted for all to see, not only in the Greek Community but the public in general.

Granted, it was an accident and they do happen, something like this raises a pall because we are Greeks.:(

I do hope you continue to post on G C and keep us updated.

Interfraternaly Yours,
