Thankfully on my undergrad campus we didn't have other greek letter organizations. No disrespect to other organizations, but I liked the enviornment that we had and I wouldn't have it any other way.

On our campus, NPC/IFC and BGLOs do their own thing. I dont really see them mingling..unless they are friends from campus or serve on the same orgs.
But then again, Detroit is a hugely segregated city in general. |

I go to the University of Texas at Austin (Texas! FIGHT!)
There is a great level of diversity here, making the Greek system a wonderful thing to participate in. I am in an Asian Fraternity, and we socialize plenty outside our own racial circle. In fact, we formed an unofficial group called "The Alliance," which also consists of Beta Chi Theta South Asian Fraternity, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, and Omega Delta Phi Fraternity. It's a good social scene here between the Multicultural councils and NPHC in my opinion.... I don't know how the IFC is, though, other than the DKE because their house is next to us. And they're not too bad socially. |
Talk about digging up an old thread...
At UofA... the Black Fraternities help with step show. That's about it. I don't ever hear of anyone doing anything else....I suppose there are black sororities but I couldn't tell you. We have a Hispanic fraternity in IFC because the University has been pushing for diversity. They have about 8 people and lost most of the prospective Hispanic rushees (of which there was probably 3), to mostly white fraternities. |

Would you disagree with any of that? What music do you listen to normally? You like Drive By Truckers or maybe some OCMS or REK? edit: You're the absolute archetype of what I'm talking about. You're an admitted Marxist, I would be mindblown if you liked any of the aforementioned artists, and you have this ridiculous racial power thing going on. Why would I want to hang out with you? There are differences in the Greek system and that's fine, that's cool. But I don't have to hang out with someone or be friends with someone that I don't have anything in common with. I'm not friends with alot of people within the white Greek system for this reason as well. |

So...what could you possibly really know about this topic? You're on some "they listen to different music" and "have a racial power thing" but how could you REALLY know that if they are barely a blip on your wanna-be-elite radar? How much do you even know about the chapter of your organization and the campus, in general, for that matter? Quote:

2. And you have this ridiculous idiot thing going on but that shouldn't stop organizations from wanting to get to know or do programs with the guys who have allowed you to associate with their chapter. ;) |
The issue, Elephant Walk, and I am going to step into this because you are a fellow razorback and I want to help you, is that you always present your opinions and arguments as if they are the last, final word on the subject.
Your comments rarely leave room for the option of something different occurring on your campus or within your chapter when common sense says that your experience is not the only way. I happen to know that the relations between the GLO's and BGLO's are positive (you mentioned the step show, but totally ignored explaining to others online what a big event that is, how it involves the entire Greek community and goes a long way in providing opportunities for the groups to cooperate and interact.) No, the groups do not socialize together but they have different interests (as you mentioned) That doesn't make it a negative situation and that is what your comments implied. You need to remember who and what you are representing. You tend to pigeonhole and stereotype so many topics that I am often frustrated with your narrow viewpoints that are stated as the absolute law because I KNOW that is not true on your campus. Yes, you are entitled to your viewpoints, but I just want you to represent yourself (and the U of A) better. Sorry for giving you a "mom lecture, but it was time. :) |
