As a "target market" person myself, I also don't really think it was their place to use a news segment as a way to promote their business. I think the word "recovering" in this way does kind of look bad, because the headline reads: "Society of Recovering Sorority Girls Reacts to “Al Roker Investigates: The Horrors of Hazing”" Ok. Recovering Sorority Girls and Hazing all in the same line. So it can give a negative connotation to the average person who may not be greek or know how they meant "recovering" in their business title.
I can see how they intended for it to mean, but for even some Greeks (also in their "target market") that meaning was not crystal clear. Furthermore, I think they need to expand on topics other than how to entertain and/or throw a great party every day of the year b/c that is essentially what their website is all about. I skimmed though the press releases and most all of them were about parties in some shape or form. Even the one for Dick Clark. ("We'll miss you at our party this year" and the nice "Drink American" one). If they are going to "apply many of the principles of collegiate Greek life to improve the leisure activities of young professionals everywhere." they should try focusing a little less on the partying b/c like someone already said, as it is, many people think that is all we are. I do give them props for helping out w/ the CInderella project, b/c that is a worthy cause, but I think if they are going to make public statements like that (that pretty much sound like they are defending Greek LIfe everywhere) and then directing all readers of their article to their website, they should probably make it a little less about just partying. Disclaimer: This is my opinion only :) |
If these ladies are serious about having a business, they need to be serious about feedback they may be getting from people who are their "target market".
As has been said, businesses pay a lot of money for this kind of feedback that's being given right here on GC, for free. And it's not rude, catty, bitchy feedback. It's honest, constructive opinions. You may or may not agree with those opinions. But if several people in such a very small sampling of their target market have these opinions, then perhaps some of the feedback should be taken seriously. If not, well, that's at the business's peril. If anything, posters should be thanked for giving free feedback that business pay thousands of dollars for. :) |
thank you kddani!
:D :D :D :D |
Who are the recovering sorority girls? I never heard of them before now. I googled them, and all I can find is a book about throwing parties. Do they have a website? Will someone put a URL link here please? Thanks.
I understand people's concern about the work recovering, but it is better than former or ex sorority girl. A few years ago before I was working when people asked what I did, I said that I was recovering from college. It was kind of funny and kind of true. |

Okay, if I am reading this correctly, these women put out a press release stating that they disagreed with big Al. You PR types out there correct me if I am wrong, but I thought anybody who feels like putting out a press release can do so. I could write down what I had for lunch and send it to the Chicago Tribune if I were so inclined.
Sure, they are press-whoring in a way, but if that is what PRWEB picks up as news, it says as much about the consumer as the producer. |

But also the thing that sucks about press releases is that they can also be modified. Medias can take whatever they want out of the press release so sometimes things are left out or the wording is altered. |
I do like some of the things they are trying to accomplish but I agree with those that think "Recovering Sorority Girls" is a negative name.
With all the negative press out there already, "recovering" almost always equals "I used to do something bad and I've trying to get over it". |
Perhaps it means that they are recovering the sorority girl inside them that was misplaced after college???/
recovering *sorority* girl.... |
