i've never highlighted my hair, but i've been a lifeguard for so many summers, and spent so much time outside as a kid, that in the summer my hair varies in shade from a dark reddish-brown (my real color) to this goofy copperish color to really, really blonde. you have to love the mix of the chlorine and sun.

when i was little my hair would turn really blonde, and i looked kinda goofy.....i was a little chinese kid with blonde hair, and then i'd have goofy roots after a while, so i'd beg my mother to cut my hair.

now, after the summer, i just color it back.

I started using sun-in when I swam on the community swim team the summer before 7th grade. Between that and the chlorine, my hair was FRIED! Took a long time to get healthy again (sun in is the devil! Do they still sell it?).

Probably had my first highlights when I was around 14. My hair is naturally a light brown/dark blonde and I had light blond highlights. My first time, they used the cap. My hair was pretty long at the time, I have no idea why they used the cap. The pain was incredible of them poking and pulling my hair through! Looked fabulous, but not worth the pain.

I would occasionally get highlights throughout high school, or do the random coloring on myself. Never tried home highlighting, but would dye my hair a lighter shade. Never tried any funky colors or anything too radical, that's probably why I never had any horrible hair stories to tell.

Though my senior year, I cut about a foot off of my long, gorgeous highlighted hair, and then bleached it pretty light. It looked TERRIBLE, I didn't understand back then that it was way too light for my features, especially when I don't wear a ton of makeup.

Now I get my hair highlighted & cut approx every 3-4 months by a wonderful stylist in Shadyside. He does a FANTASTIC job and usually does 3 different shades of highlights. He's not cheap, but not ridiculously expensive, and he's worth every penny :)

My hair is naturally dark brown, and while my mom thinks it's very pretty, the color is just too boring for me. So I was finally able to start highlighting my hair the summer before my junior year of college! :p I started out with some blonde highlights, just a few though b/c I didn't know how good it would look. I actually thought having a lot of blonde in my hair would be bad, but I have been highlighting it now for over a year and I get SO many compliments. I personally think it brightens up my whole face, but who knows. I hate having to touch it up b/c oif roots, but I have to b/c my roots look so dark now compared to the rest of my lighter hair. Luckily I am super anal about it so my roots don't ever get to the point where they're really noticeable to anyone but me. :)

I just died my hair a golden brown colour. It's all one colour now. I couldn't stand my roots anymore, and it just cost too much money for me to continue the upkeep.
I actually like my new brown colour. It'such darker than my natural colour. But eventually I want to get back to my natural colour. I haven't had my natural colour since I was 14 years old.
