Similar GC threads… A mini rush rant - http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...&threadid=1517 Rush starts today – http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...=&pagenumber=1 As far as starting a local, talk with Angie the Panhellenic adviser. It might be possible but there are definitely some challenges. The main one is getting liability insurance with affordable premiums. You will also need to have programming compatible with the Greek Assessment program. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. |

This is really getting close to the "why do you make the membership selection decisions you do" merry go round that GC has gone on several times.
While I may not agree with decisions other groups or other chapters may make, I will defend their right to choose members as THEY see fit - because if that's taken away from them, it might be taken away from me too. I mean, I used to think it was HORRIBLE that some groups made transfers wait a semester or a year to affiliate - or sometimes didn't allow them to affiliate at all. Then I found out that these same groups had a lot of problems with women who were purposely pledging at smaller schools and then transferring to Large U - in other words, they weren't really interested in who the women were at either of the chapters, they just wanted to be able to say "Oh I'm an ABC at Large U" for the sake of prestige. If I got burned by that multiple times, I would probably do the same thing. |

I fully agree with you. |
Cut once, cut always
I, too, am bothered by the idea of "cut once, cut always". Suppose a PNM had been cut for poor grades, but she's managed to bring them up, or a great PNM had to be cut because of release figures... it bothers me that she will never get a second look.
However, it is up to each GLO and each chapter to set its own guidelines for membership selection. I may not agree with the "cut once, cut always" policy, but that's what the chapters at LSU have chosen to do. LSUgrrl, chin up, and good luck with whatever you decide. :) |
The rule does not apply if you were cut for grades.

Like others have said, COB is rare. If it does happen, it's not mentioned and the chapters probably have people in mind who they want to bid. Sorry what happened to you LSUgrrl126. |
So I was thinking about this on my way to work, I'm sure if the girl in question, had just worked on meeting girls form her desired orgs, gone through recruitment quietly, if an Org really loved her they would be willing to bend this local rule or whatever. I understand that there is a degree of anonimity here on GC but if she has indeed been pestering the greek life office and panhel adivisor, than word will likely spread. It's unfortunate, but you prob would have been better off not saying anythig about it. But that just my .02 nad i never went to LSU so what do i know.

The alums calling the houses was not my idea. They called to see about recs or something, then called me to tell me about the chapter's policy. I didn't ask the alums to call the sororities nor did I even know they were doing it until after the fact.
|
geez, seems kind of silly that you can't go through rush again. Maybe ask your friends who are members of the sororities you want to be in? They might be able to help you out.

Well, whether anyone thinks she was "pestering" or not, it seems to me that she was doing what any of would have done under like circumstances: seeking out the appropriate information before risking the pain of going through again if there was a "cut once, cut always" policy. It seems inappropriate (and certainly not helpful at this point!) to suggest that she could have "messed up" her nonexistent chance to join (given the cut once, cut always policy) by "pestering" the greek life office!
