When my outfit was deploying to Iraq we fell in on the parade ground and received the usual pep talk from the Commanding General and then we passed in review before loading onto trucks to take us to the airfield. As we marched by the band struck up a medely of traditional Cavalry tunes and ended up as we marched off the field with "The Girl I Left Behind Me". Not a dry eye to be found! We fell out by the trucks and had a few minuted to say farewells to families, wives, and girlfriends. The band played it once more as we loaded up and then we were on our way. On the long flight over I heard many of the troopers saying that our departure music was like a throwback to an old John Wayne movie, but it sure made them feel like something special had happened.

To Make You Feel My Love-Garth Brooks

I'm Movin' On-Rascal Flatts---this song was literally (not joking around) one of the first songs that I heard on the radio after I moved to MI from MO leaving my friends behind while I went to school. It was erie, but made me a fan of theirs right away...

In The Arms of An Angel-Sarah McLaughlin

God Must Have Spent A Little More Time On You-*N Sync--as cheesy as it seems, this was my best friend at the time song. It brings back the good memories that we had and sadly the way that the friendship ended...

The Saddest Song I have ever heard - unfortunately appropriate when it came out

(I cried in the record store when I heard the lyrics the first time - you should hear the desperation in Skinners voice - it's unsettling)

Dry Your Eyes (The Streets)

In one single moment your whole life can turn 'round
I stand there for a minute starin’ straight into the ground
Lookin’ to the left slightly, then lookin’ back down
World feels like it’s caved in – proper sorry frown

Please let me show you where we could only just be, for us
I can change and I can grow or we could adjust
The wicked thing about us is we always have trust
We can even have an open relationship, if you must

I look at her she stares almost straight back at me
But her eyes glaze over like she’s lookin’ straight through me
Then her eyes must have closed for what seems an eternity
When they open up she’s lookin’ down at her feet

Dry your eyes mate
I know it’s hard to take but her mind has been made up
There’s plenty more fish in the sea
Dry your eyes mate
I know you want to make her see how much this pain hurts
But you’ve got to walk away now
It’s over

So then I move my hand up from down by my side
It's shakin’, my life is crashin’ before my eyes
Turn the palm of my hand up to face the skies
Touch the bottom of her chin and let out a sigh

‘Cause I can’t imagine my life without you and me
There’s things I can’t imagine doin’, things I can’t imagine seein’
It weren't supposed to be easy, surely
Please, please, I beg you please

She brings her hands up towards where my hands rested
She wraps her fingers round mine with the softness she’s blessed with
She peels away my fingers, looks at me and then gestures
By pushin’ my hand away to my chest, from hers

Dry your eyes mate
I know it’s hard to take but her mind has been made up
There’s plenty more fish in the sea
Dry your eyes mate
I know you want to make her see how much this pain hurts
But you’ve got to walk away now
It’s over

And I’m just standin’ there, I can’t say a word
‘Cause everythin’s just gone
I’ve got nothin’
Absolutely nothin’

Tryin’ to pull her close out of bare desperation
Put my arms around her tryin’ to change what she’s sayin’
Pull my head level with hers so she might engage in
Look into her eyes to make her listen again

I’m not gonna fuckin’, just fuckin’ leave it all now
‘Cause you said it'd be forever and that was your vow
And you’re gonna let our things simply crash and fall down
You’re well out of order now, this is well out of town

She pulls away, my arms are tightly clamped round her waist
Gently pushes me back and she looks at me straight
Turns around so she’s now got her back to my face
Takes one step forward, looks back, and then walks away

Dry your eyes mate
I know it’s hard to take but her mind has been made up
There’s plenty more fish in the sea
Dry your eyes mate
I know you want to make her see how much this pain hurts
But you’ve got to walk away now
It’s over

I know in the past I’ve found it hard to say
Tellin’ you things, but not tellin’ straight
But the more I pull on your hand and say
The more you pull away

Dry your eyes mate
I know it’s hard to take but her mind has been made up
There’s plenty more fish in the sea
Dry your eyes mate
I know you want to make her see how much this pain hurts
But you’ve got to walk away now

Dry Your Eyes (The Streets)

Someone suggested this song to me one day and it just hits every feeling that I've had lately. SO GOOD.

Angels, the Jessica Simpson versin. Heard it on the radio for the first time when I was getting ready to go to the nursing home the day my grandma died. Bawled my eyes out.

Live like you were dying. It's sad, so why not cry?

The Dance... reminds me of my sorority years.

Time to Say Goodbye... Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman. I'm not down with opera, but wow! Kickass song! It's so beautiful that it tears me up.

I have so many more, but unfortunately my list is in Livejournal, and that's down.

Also the entire Innuendo album by Queen. If you listen to the words and know that it was Mercury's final days, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Good call on Innuendo.

"All I Want is You" U2
"Victims" Culture Club
"Shelter" Cheap Trick

Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again- from Phantom of the Opera

I'm not a big cryer, but...

Wind Beneath My Wings - Bette Midler
Butterfly Kisses - Bob Carlisle
Breathe No More - Evanescence
My Immortal - Evanescence
Who Wants To Live Forever - Queen (I put that one on repeat for a while right after a bad breakup)

rayray 01-15-2005 08:26 PM

I'm Already There- Lonestar

The version on thier greatest hits cd makes me cry even more. Listening to families sending their love to the troops is hard to hear.

"What A Wonderful World"

As you can see from my siggy, I enjoy Mercy Me's music too! And, "What a Wonderful World" gets me every time.

"Who I Am" - Jessica Andrews (Substitute "Josephine" for "Rosemary" and you have me bawling my eyes out!)

"Call on Jesus" - Nicole C. Mullen

I love the chorus:
But when I call on Jesus
All things are possible
I can mount on wings like eagles and soar
When I call on Jesus
Mountains are gonna fall
'Cause He'll move heaven and earth to come rescue me when I call

"If You Want Me To" - Ginny Owens
*Ginny Owens went blind at, I believe, the age of two. Her story is amazing!

The pathway is broken
And The signs are unclear
And I don't know the reason why You brought me here
But just because You love me the way that You do
I'm gonna walk through the valley
If You want me to

Chorus:
Cause I'm not who I was
When I took my first step
And I'm clinging to the promise You're not through with me yet
so if all of these trials bring me closer to you
Then I will go through the fire
If You want me to

It may not be the way I would have chosen
When you lead me through a world that's not my home
But You never said it would be easy
You only said I'd never go alone

So When the whole world turns against me
And I'm all by myself
And I can't hear You answer my cries for help
I'll remember the suffering Your love put You through
And I will go through the valley
If You want me to

OH! I don't know if this has been mentioned yet:

"Letters from War" - Mark Schultz

She runs to the mailbox
On that bright summers day
Found a letter from her son
In a war far away

He spoke of the weather
And good friends that he'd made
Said I'd been thinking 'bout dad
And the life that he had
Thats why I'm here today
And at the end he said
You are what I'm fighting for
It was the first of the letters from war

She started writing
(Chorus)
You're good and you're brave
What a father that you'll be someday
Bring him home
Bring him safe

She wrote everynight as she prayed

Late in December
A day she'll not forget
Oh her tears stained the paper
With every word that she read

It said I was up on a hill
I was out there alone
When the shots all rang out
And bombs were exploding
And thats when I saw him
He came back for me
And though he was captured
A man set me free
And that man was your son

He asked me to write to you
I told him I would oh I swore
It was the last of the letters from war

And she prayed he was living
Kept on believing
and wrote every night just to say

(Chorus)
You're good and you're brave
What a father that you'll be someday
Bring him home
Bring him safe

Then two years later
Autumn leaves all around
A car pulled in the driveway
And she fell to the ground
And out stepped a captain
Where her boy used to stand

Said mom I'm following orders
From all of your letters
And I've come home again
He ran into hold her
And dropped all his bags on the floor
Holding all of her letters from war

Bring him home
Bring him home
Bring him home

How could I forget this???? I first heard it back during Desert Storm. We had a big assembly with the whole school, and we had a huge screen on stage and all these other schools across the country were doing their own "peace" concert sing a long thingy. So everytime I hear it, it makes me think of then, and all those people who have died.

God Bless The U.S.A.
by Lee Greenwood

If tomorrow all the things were gone,
I’d worked for all my life.
And I had to start again,
with just my children and my wife.

I’d thank my lucky stars,
to be livin here today.
‘Cause the flag still stands for freedom,
and they can’t take that away.

And I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

From the lakes of Minnesota,
to the hills of Tennessee.
Across the plains of Texas,
From sea to shining sea.

From Detroit down to Houston,
and New York to L.A.
Well there's pride in every American heart,
and its time we stand and say.

That I’m proud to be an American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

And I’m proud to be and American,
where at least I know I’m free.
And I wont forget the men who died,
who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up,
next to you and defend her still today.
‘Cause there ain’t no doubt I love this land,
God bless the USA.

OMG I teared up just reading it!
