umm, because Alabama and Florida are next to each other, it hit both places- although Ala was hit a little harder than Fl. i know Ft. Walton Beach, Fl got tons of damage

Yeay! I survived. I think I might be one of the few people in Brevard County with power. We lost power for about 12 hours, which is not bad at all considering the apartment didn't have power for a week and a half with Frances (I wasn't here...I was in VA).

Hoping to find out more info later about everyone else down here. Cell phone reception is spotty, which makes me think a tower was damaged. Laters!

My boyfriend's mother lives in Mary Esther, FL (literally down the street from FWB) and her whole neighborhood is destroyed. Her house is being completely redone...and she was one of the lucky ones! Atleast her walls were left standing!

Why is this so difficult?

The map says Walton County. Having been born in Fort Walton Beach, I know it is not in Walton County. Nor is Pensacola, which received much more damage than FWB. Mary Esther is right between FWB and Pensacola.

I hear you on the flooding. Not that I should be complaining or anything, but...all of these hurricanes are screwing with my research for my one class.
on a bright note, my supervisor informed me that downtown newark (where i will be working) floods when it drizzels, so i bought fun rubber rain boots! i loooove them!!

my grandparents are in west palm beach and i have family friends in winterhaven. the folks in winterhaven called when we were out and left a voicemail on the machine; she says "hi. we're still alive in fl. hear some jeanne." the next few minutes are some winds. she stuck the phone outside of the window for our listening pleasure

We lost power at 12:30 while watching the weather guys tell us about all the possible funnel clouds near Vero Beach, just south of where I was. We listened to the battery-operated radio most of the night, and I slept under the pool table in case the roof caved in.

Only damage was my boyfriend forgot to lock his tonue cover on his truck and it flew off and hit the side of his car, somehow cartwheeled over my car, and landed in the grass. He has a nice dent and we can't figure out how it went from his car to the grass without touching my car, parked next to and slightly in front of him. Once again, everyone in the neighborhood took damage except for him. His neighbor across the street lost the roof to his screen room and it flew over their house, over our place, and landed in the woods next to ours. Once again, we got really lucky.

I was stuck in Grant that whole next day though, because US 1 was flooded from Malabar to Barefoot Bay, and Palm Bay had a curfew in effect, so my 2 ways out were blocked. Luckily it wasn't as hot as it was when Frances hit, so we weren't completely miserable. But this time he lost the phone line, and I think the cell phone towers must be down because I had a hell of a time using my cell phone.

Luckily my place has power. Tomorrow on my way to work I'm going to drive by the condo complex I'm moving into to make sure my place didn't get wiped out.

Grrr...I had such a hard time using my cell phone when the towers in North Florida were down after Ivan. I kept my 850 area code, but I had no idea that, to receive calls, I was dependent on the 850 towers. Damn you, AT&T! :mad:

Hopefully, you had a landline. So many of my friends use their home area codes and are SOL if something happens at home.

After Charley, all the towers in the Orlando area were down. My roommate and I don't have a landline so we rely on our cell phones. She has Cingular, I have Sprint, and her boyfriend has Nextel. The day after Charley hit, not one of our cell phones had signal even though we all use different providers. My family was all worried about me because I couldn't get ahold of them. I had to drive over to pay phone (mind you that the lights at all intersections were out so I nearly got killed along the way) so I could call my parents and let me know I was alive.
But, unfortunately, landlines go down a lot after storms too. My co-worker's landline has been out since Charley and Hellsouth still has yet to fix it.
