I will say I'm surprised by some sentiments that seem to be being echoed here which suggest people might have breast reduction surgery not for any health reasons (such as back problems) but because 'people look at them' etc or cosmetic reasons 'slightly out of proportion' etc.

That's not to suggest a woman with a particularly large chest wouldn't also experience those as problems i.e. that 'people look (gawk) at them' of course, nor that a considerably large chest would not be disproportionate to a smaller frame. Often these can be secondary concerns though.

It's just slightly surprising that that reasoning (the latter two) is being thrown around in isolation. Is it a difference between a reduction being for medical reasons and purely cosmetic reasons?
The latter would of course exclude cases where the breast size though not so significant as to cause back problems does cause serious esteem or depression issues and accordingly suggests reduction surgery as an appropriate intervention.

In order for health insurance to cover the cost of cosmetic surgery, a patient often needs a medical reason such as back pain for breast reduction or deviated septum for a nose job. Many health insurance policies in the U.S.A. do not cover surgery for purely cosmetic reasons.

and there is permanent indentation in my shoulders from my bra straps, by the end of the day i have huge red marks cutting in to my shoulders-
i dont really notice it as much because they have always been like that...
the weirdest part is the thought of sleeping without a bra on makes me cringe-

and i have hardly any sensation in my breasts to begin with.

Cosmetic reasons aside, has any GCer with large breasts and back pain tried to alleviate that pain through exercise like weight lifting, swimming, or something else?

I was in PT for my back for a different reason and they gave me some exercizes but it doesn't help...
and exercise is difficult with large breasts- so it is sort of a catch 22- i mean the thought of running makes me cringe... when I exercise I wear an underwire bra and two (YES TWO) sports bras...

I bet. I mentioned swimming because when I was younger, I had back problems. My orthopedic surgeon was a very strong proponent of swimming.

My second back problem happened when I was 18. I fractured my second and fourth vertabrates of my lower lumbar. The pain was excruciating. Within a few weeks, most of the pain was gone, but it was still there. When I brought my swimming to an hour/day, every day, the pain was completely gone within a week.

I know its not the same thing, but swimming might be a solution.

Yes. The problem is, when they are out of proportion, nothing really helps. We can strengthen our backs a bit, but that does not fully alleviate the pain, does not at all alleviate the grooves in shoulders, etc.

And ilovemyglo--like you, I wear at least 2 bras to work out and cannot fathom sleeping without one on.

Cosmetic reasons are just as valid, IMO. I was walking to a bar last Friday a block from my house. On the way there and on the way back men leaned out of their cars to make LEWD comments. Not Hey baby, Not yo mamma-- VERY specific comments, VERY rude comments about my chest. This drives me CRAZY, I mean do they think I'm gonna stop and go, yeah baby, let me whip em out? Puhleeaze.

Even in the best athletic bra it can hurt a woman with large breasts to run because the breasts are so heavy.

Further more, I personally dont think guys have any say in the matter. They do not(most dont anyway) have breasts. Guys dont know what it's like to have those things, what it's like to wear a bra(most dont anyway), the sexual comments and harassment that goes with them..........the list goes on and on. :rolleyes:

I don't really have much advice since I'm a small girl, but I know of at least four or five people who have had reductions and every single one is really glad she did it. So that's encouraging. :)

Working at Victoria's Secret I have seen so many young girls get breast reductions. Most of the women love it afterwards, although some women stay very sensitive for a while after the surgery.

One of my good friends just got it done and she has had no complications at all. The best part is, that she's very happy with her self now.

I just had mine done a few days ago & it was a breeze! I havent had any pain...only discomfort I had was the drains which was removed 2 days ago...
My stitches are still in and itching..Anyone thats had this..anny ideas on what to do for the itching? I have been through ointmemts with pain relief & comes right back! Other than that I am a very proud new owner of lnew & imporved titties!
