Has Pat Robertson said anything about this yet?

I live in South Broward County on AIA so I hope I don't have to evacuate. I got my supplies tonight - I think I have enough food for 2 weeks!!

Stay tuned to local TV stations for any news regarding possible evacuations. You're in Evacuation Zone A, which means you could be ordered to evacuate first.

Map of Broward County evacuation zones:

Map of Miami-Dade County evacuation zones:

(The zone marked as Zone A inland in south Miami-Dade County is known as the '8-square mile area', which is inaccessible to rescue units after a storm. It's mostly farm and swamplands out there.)

Thanks for the map AlphaSigOU!! So, I guess I would have to evacuate first. I have a friend that lives west of I-95 that I could stay with. I SO hope I don't have to leave, my condo faces West (Intercoastal), so maybe I will be OK.

it's good to see that Florida is taking the precautions necessary for this storm......because in North Carolina, the state likes to wait until the storm is banging on our door to start evacuating and by then it's normally too late

some models are still showing the storm bouncing off of Florida and heading to the Carolinas and other models are showing it going straight through Florida into the Gulf and hitting Louisiana.

either way this thing is at like 145mph so where ever it hits its going to be baaaaaaadddddd

Unless things change dramatically in the next couple hours, we are going to be packing up and getting out of town right after work tonight....

It looks like the National Hurricane Center has become a bit more certain with where it is going, but after Charley, I wouldn't want to be the person not leaving because they say it is hitting elsewhere. With the only predictor being actual time, everyone please be careful.

Poor, poor Central Florida. :( We get hit, again.

The Cubs flew back to Chicago last night instead of Miami, where they are supposed to start a 3 game series with the Marlins tomorrow. Doesn't look like that will happen.

Stay safe, everyone.

Part of the Texas (Corpus) costal evacuation plan involves turning all 4 lanes of I-37 into northbound traffic (reversing the southbound lanes) to double the capacity the freeway can handle. I have seen thsi happen on I-40 in North Carolina. Seeing the above photo makes me wonder if Florida does the same thing?

It's in the evacuation plans, though officials have not yet implemented it - they may do so as Frances gets closer. Tolls on the Florida Turnpike, Sawgrass Expressway, Alligator Alley, and various toll roads and bridges in the Tampa and Orlando areas have been lifted during the evacuation.

A lot of Florida's infrastructure is not equipped to handle the mass evacuations sometimes ordered for a storm. Back in 1995, we spent about 3 hours traveling 40 miles or so (to the inland family home). To be in the path of such devastating storms, but not offering residents a safe way to leave quickly (for example, my area has 4 North/South thoroughfares--each 2 with two lanes) is ridiculous.

if the state decides that it is best, I-10 west, and I-95 north will go one way. in 1999, when Hurricane Floyd was coming, I-295 went one way.
