Here at Washington State University the first was Kappa Sigma in 1909 (they are coming up on their 100 years!)

The reason I know is from my boyfriend who is a Kappa Sig, our Greek life page doesn't tell local charter dates, and most of the chapters here don't say them on their web pages.

At Harvard, the Massachusetts Alpha chapter of Phi Beta Kappa was chartered in 1779 when Harvard was 143 years old, and it has been going strong ever since. It is the oldest continuously operating chapter of any Greek organization. :D

The chapter is now known as Alpha Iota of Massachusetts; when Harvard and Radcliffe merged, alumnae of Radcliffe's Iota chapter were recognized as members of Alpha Iota. I'm proud to be a female member of the oldest fraternity on my campus! ;)

Lander University in SC
1st Fraternity was Pi Kappa Phi
1st Sorority was Phi Mu

There used to be a bunch of local fraternities at Florida Tech, but they all either affilliated with a national (like Delta Delta Tau becoming Theta Xi), but I believe the first national fraternity on our campus was Pi Kappa Alpha.

Gamma Phi Beta was the first national sorority on our campus, in the early 80s. Once, again, not sure about locals.

My chapter is currently the oldest (As far as I know) on Campus, First as a Local Fraternity. Second oldest is Tau Kappa Epsilon.

Still around I would say the following two: Alpha Delta Phi which started before my school was there as the Chicago graduate chapter in 1881 and I guess became a chapter at my school in 1896.

And Psi Upsilon's chapter at Chicago was created in 1869 - again before the school.

In all honesty though, I really can't think of a more difficult school to colonize at.

However, you would have been one of the top chapters if you had not left campus simply because of your house.

I'm not completely sure the expenses of that house would have ever made it worth it for you guys to hold onto. It's an amazing house as are many of the houses, BUT these houses don't hold 200 guys so perhaps your resources were better allocated outside of this campus. We have heard all sorts of rumors about why you left campus and if you can PM me the reason, it'd be great to know because none of the stories have been normal stories.

The oldest fraternity at Washington and Lee is Phi Kappa Psi. It's Virginia Beta (I think) and I believe is their second overall chapter, founded 1856 (I think). I'm sure Russ will correct me if I'm wrong. ;) I'm pretty sure the next fraternity was KA Order, which was founded here during the Lee Presidency (1865-1870).

The oldest three sororities on my campus were all colonized in the same year, 1989. They are Kappa Kappa Gamma, Kappa Alpha Theta, and Chi Omega.

At Elon, I believe Kappa Sigma is the oldest active fraternity on campus. TKE, SPE, and AXP were on campus but lost their charters before my freshmen year. I'm pretty sure Tri-Sigma is the oldest sorority on campus, but they were colonized around the same time as ZTA and Phi Mu as well. K Sig and Tri-Sig were founded around 1970 at Elon.

University of Toronto

Oldest Active Fraternity: Zeta Psi, 1879 (According to the list on Canadian s Go Greek, it is the first GLO at the U of T)

Oldest Active Sorority: Alpha Phi, 1906

Oldest Sorority (Inactive): Kappa Alpha Theta, 1887

Close, it was 1855. It is our third chapter. Aside from the Civil War years, when it closed, Virginia Beta has had a continuous existence.

Phi Kappa Chi was founded at Washington & Lee in 1865. At the request of the Phi Psi chapter, they changed their name to Kappa Alpha.

Beta Theta Pi would have been the oldest on campus. They are now inactive (1986-2001)

Oh, yes and there is now a FarmHouse colony on campus. Founded last year.
