It's funny, I used to see more athletes at my old gym than my new one, but I like my new one a whole lot more. I think it was that the old one was right across from Fenway, while my new one is a bit further out.

During the ALCS last year, I used to see a bunch of the Yankees working out before games.

I used to be with family fitness but i recently cancelled (once my contract was over) because I am rarely in Sacramento (where my gym is).I love it cuz its a womens only gym on fulton but the other ones in sac is co-ed, so for days you want to work out with guys, you go to co-ed or days you just look like crap and just want to do a sweating workout - go to women's branch.

I am thinking of going to 24 hours because I am rarely in one city for long time and most of my friends are members there and it would motivate me to exercise if my friends were with me. I dont like 24 hours cuz no private showers (with curtains) and its just too big and the guys just tries to flirt wtih you when you are working out.....not fun, but it was nice really late at night cuz only a few people are there :)

Well, I'm moving so I'll have to find a new gym. There's a Bally's pretty close to where I'll be, but I've never been to one before. Are they really inexpensive?

I'm a Crunch gal :) I love it!

I work out at the gym that's a mile from my house. It's decent, but I can't wait until the fall starts when I can work out at the newly renovated Rec at the university. Check it out here!

My gym is in my basement.

I used to work for a company that gave us a certain amount of money each year to use toward a wellness initiative - it could be a gym membership, weight loss program, stop smoking program, or purchasing gym equipment for yourself. I figured that gym memberships expire, but gym equipment you can keep. I picked up an elliptical machine, stationary bike, weight machine, and some hand weights.

This way, I have no excuses. I can't say "it's snowing, I can't get to the gym, so I'll be lazy" or "I don't feel like driving into town, changing, working out, showering, changing again, and driving home". All I have to do is grab some water and go downstairs. I also don't get distracted chatting with other people, since it's just me.

When I travel, I either work out in the hotel's fitness center if it has one, swim if there's a pool, or just go for a run or walk.

That's actually a pretty cool benefit - the hospital I work for gives small gym reimbursments, and gives money off for the hospital's quit smoking and weight loss programs, but nothing as far as buying gym equipment.

Not a bad deal at all.

Wilson's Total Fitness

The owner owns like 4 gyms, an indoor soccer thing and a beach club. I work at the beach club so I get free membership everywhere.

Its really nice. The forum Wilsons location has an indoor pool, tons of raquetball courts, arobics rooms, basketball court, all new advanced equipment and freakin' PLASMA screens in front of all the treadmills, stairclimbers, etc... Very nice gym though I couldn't afford membership if I didn't work for them.

I also belong to Bally's. I have the same membership as Rudey, the Premier lifetime. I think it was a wise investment. I personally paid $45.00 a month for 3 years, and now I pay dues ($12.00 a month). I can take any class, visit any gym, use any equipment without any extra cost. I am pleased with my membership.

I belong to 24 Hr. Fitness. I've been going to a brand new facility in Pacifica, but now that people have discovered it, it's all going downhill. Especially since I've started to run into my ex.

Time to find a new gym! :) I've been thinking about Bally's because there's one close by.

APhi Sailorgirl 07-30-2004 03:30 PM

Just wanted to say i'm surprised to hear positives about Bally's. Most people say once you're in, they've got your money and you can't break the contract.

I used to work out at my college's gym, but my grad school expects us to pay per semester to use the gym?? WTF??

Sooo, once I move to Boston, I've got to find somewhere to work out? Not sure where since money will be tight.

Edited-apparently at my grad school all students pay, not just the grad ones to make it clearer.

How much are their memberships?

I usually just go to the Blackhawk Fitness Center in Hoffman Estates. My subdivision is in the HE park district since they were closer than the Schaumburg one back in the 70's when my townhouse was built. Of course Schaumburg built a huuuuuuge fitness center maybe 2 miles away in the 1990s.... Blackhawk has three treadmills, four ellipticals, four bikes, two stair machines, twenty(-five?) Nautalis machines, free weights, and a small track. It's not huuuuuge, but it's been pretty empty this summer. I'll see how it usually is when I'm trying to exercise at 5 p.m. or on Saturdays in the fall...

lucille roberts.

it's ok, but many of the machines are always being used and that irritates me.

I joined Good Life Fitness (large gym club in Canada) on Friday. I've been a member before (on a deal, it was for half a year and dues would have been $50/month after), so it's nice to go back. It's a nice club - lots of classes, machines and help if wanted. It's right by my work, so it's not a trouble to go.

Since I work at the university I thought that I would be able to go to the fitness centre there for free (students can) but then I found out they wanted me to pay like $80/term for it. It's not that good.
