I finally was able to read this thread. I saw the movie on sunday. And I thank god that I created this thread or I might have been a little disappointed if I had read this before the movie.

OVERALL I really enjoyed this movie. The art direction and special effects were great.

As some who has read the book twice I really disappointed about how much he left out. So many things that are critical to the story like the relationship between Sirius and Harry towards the end, Quidditch, Cedric, Crookshanks and Scabbers, The Mauader's Map, well you know. I feel the direct just gave the jist of the story and this was really to benefit those who hadn't read the book.
I went with my mum to see the movie and she's seen the first 2 movies but hasn't read any of the books. She wasn't confused at all. She followed along with the story nicely, but was disappointed to find out the Harry wouldn't be living with Sirius at the end. I was angry that we didn't see Sirius give Harry permission to visit Hogsmede next year and to see Harry threaten the Dursley's.
The choppiness didn't bother me.
I like the adrker feel that this movie had has the book was much darker. However I don't feel that he should direct the 4th book. I don't know if it was the writers that chose to leave so much out or the director but I think he left too much out, especially things that I thought were crucial to the story.
I'm curious to know what Ms. Rowling thought of the film. Does anyone know what she has said about it or where I can read her comments?
Also, I read somewhere that they were think of doing The Goblet of Fire in 2 movies but had decided against it. I can't remember if I read that on imdb.com or The Leaky Cauldron. At first I thought it could be done in 1 movie but if you have Curaon (is that how you pell his name?) directing GoF I really think it should be done in 2 movies so he doesn't leave too much out.

Again, well worth the $13.50. Well actually it was free thanks to my mum's premier movie pass. Movies for 2 for a year. FREE! (Thanksyou Coca-Cola...I forgive you about the stupid vending machine).

I noticed this, too, but then I thought maybe I imagined it, since the rest of the movie it was on the "same" side! I guess I didn't imagine it... but it does seem like kind of an obvious mistake for the makeup people to make.

Everyone mentions how choppy this feels... I thought the second movie was much worse in that aspect.

I loved how they did the dementors (better than I expected).

I also loved the "new" Hogwarts uniforms... I wish they wouldn't have left the kids in Muggle clothes for 3/4ths of the film. It didn't feel as much like the alternate world I think of the wizarding world being, and i think that was part of it.

I also think it's interesting that every fan always says there's not enough Quidditch, and each movie seems to cut more and more Quidditch out. Makes you wonder how they're handling GoF.

If they cut out the Quidditch World Cup in the fourth movie there will be a lot of POed Harry Potter fans. I think it crucial that we see the Quidditch World Cup. How would the have the Dark Mark scene without it?

Goblet of Fire will not be directed by Alfonso Curon. It will be directed by Mike Newell, who did Four Weddings and a Funeral, Mona Lisa Smile, and Donnie Brasco, among others.

I'm glad there will be a new director but having Curon suggest GoF be one movie instead of two makes me wonder how much they are going to leave out.

When Nelville and everyone else were inside Honeydukes, Nelville's lollypop floated away from him and went outside the store, but never actually went anywhere? What was the point of that? :confused:

I will have to re-read the GOF. And I agree, they can't cut out the World Cup cuz that's when the Dark mark is summond. However I was reading temporary cast listings on Yahoo and there are parts cast for the gardner and for other parts in the first chapter.

I really want to see what they do with the Yule Ball... if they include it.

Yeah I noticed that too, but didn't really pay attention to it. I just figured that he'd had enough and threw it away. But it was rather pointless. I guess he had it there for comic relief and well it just wasn't that funny.

I thought the lollipop was stuck to Harry in the invisibility cloak so that it was easier to follow him...

That's a good theory. And probably also for a cheap laugh.

They have to use the World Cup in GoF! Not only does it introduce the Dark Mark but portkeys as well, very essential to the last part of the movie.

As far as PoA goes, I was disappointed that the names on the map weren't explained. Although I really like the new castle, I didn't like that they changed the location of the Gryffindor entrance and the Fat Lady, although Dawn French did a good job. The special effects in this movie were so much better than the ones in the previous movies.

Well, J.K appears to have loved the movie. Which I think is great!
I still don't like the fact that they left a ton of stuff out, but it was still a good movie.

I just assumed that Harry ganked it when he walked by.

I enjoyed it (it's Harry Potter! How could I not?!), but I liked the first two better. I really had a difficult time with the change in the surroundings at Hogwarts... it just didn't feel like the same school to me.


I know they had to cut a lot to make it a viable movie, but I for one would be glad to sit through a 5 hour movie to see the entire book put to screen in detail!

Ok... I get it now. It all makes sense.

As for the scenery changes, I liked them. Of course I don't think I watched the first and second movies enough (or recently enough) to really compare the differences. Since I am sick... maybe it's time for a marathon. :D

I'm going to have to go back and read book 4, but doesn't Cho's boyfriend die in the end? You know they will have to play up all that leads to that though....b/c that leads into book 5.
