I would have to agree with those who stated Angie Stone (Come Over, How Wet, Chocolate), Mint Condition (My Dear and So Fine) Silk (It's On and Tonight), and Will Downing (I know ya'll was feeling the cd he did with G. Albright, "Pleasures of the Night")-- these are some of the most underrated folks in the business. And while their style was similar to MC, the group Low-Key (Sweet On You) was an excellent band group that never had a chance to blossom.

I also loved the following groups R&B groups:

Goodfellas: Sugar, Honey Ice, Tea and If You Walk Away
A Few Good Men: Let's Take A Dip
Shai: wonder why they broke up
Jade: I absolutely loved those girls and they could all blow, womder why they broke up
Jamiraquoi: lawd, I always mess up the name, but Jay Kay can blow and the vibe and rhythms of this group is outta this world

As for rap artists, yes I would also agree w/ Talib Kweli mention. If you don't have the new Hi-Tek CD-- you are missing out. Ruc and Roc (Helta Skelta) are some of the best undaground MC's and always have bangin' beats. Redman, for the longest, got no repsect from radio. While most of that was due to the graphic nature of his lyrics, that did not negate the raw talent and energy in his music.

ATL Representin'

As I stated before, I love me some SILK...but, I also love Jagged Edge!!! Now, 112, I'll just say UUUUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHH!!! (no disrespect to the GC'er with that screen name;))....but, Slim has got ta GO!!! I'm so tired of [in whiny voice]"imma put my lips all over you...peaches & creme...." I just want to backhand slap him! :p

Ps. Thanks Soror AKA2D '91 for letting me know that "spend the night" song was on an Isley Bros album....I'll be lookin' for it.

Hello All!!! :D I must say, I am glad to be back up in the mix...I've missed all of you and I hope all is well with everyone...Now to my list (it's long--sorry!!):

***The Brand New Heavies: HIGHLY underrated--CDS BNH and Rhythms & Excurrions are in HEAVY rotation in my house--Always...I love artisits bands that play their own instruments and write their own music...also listed is N'Dea Davenport...

***JazzyFatNasties: They had a single out called "The Wound". I don't think anyone mentioned them but their CD "The Once and the Future" is tight--pick it up!

***Jamiroquai: The BOMB...they've got a grammy but deserve more props than they get...

***Sade: HELLO!!! ENOUGH SAID!!! Why has she not won any grammies (correct me if I'm wrong)???

***Rashaan Paterson: I like him...Hopefully we'll see more of him.

***Eric Benet: His latest CD is solid--he deserves more props too...

***Lenny Kravitz: He's hard to classify in any particular music genre, which is why he probably doesn't as much hype as he deserves...My favorites are "I Belong to You" and "Black Velveteen".

***India Arie: I dig her too..."Brown Skin is the BOMB, not to mention she plays the acoustic guitar--NICE!!

***Erykah Badu: No one mentioned her but I think she deserves WAAAAAYYYYY more recognition than she gets for representing for the conscientios, positive, uplifting Black woman of today--I love her!!!!!

***Common: My future husband!! I love repsectable, introspective, positive Black male artists--PROPS TO ALL OF THEM!!

***Black Starr (Mos Def and Talib Kweli): Conscious rappers that promote a positive image of the Black man...also both as solo artists are tight too (I love "Umi Says").

***The Roots: ENOUGH SAID AGAIN!! Representing to the fullest...

***Dead Prez: I agree; they're too political for many to swallow...

That's all I can think of for now...But as Arnold says "I'll be Back!"

Underrated Music/Group

Well I have quite a bit to say about this topic. I am a music junkie, particularly GOOD underground soul music and I will give you a few of my top picks.

Donnie- Atlanta artist album was just re-released on Motwon records.

Fertile Ground- Independent Baltimore soul group

Goapele- Bay Area singer whos cd will blow your mind

Les Nubians- Wonderful

Lewis Taylor- English soul artist

Happy Listening!

I agree...

I agree 1000% on the below, ESPECIALLY Jamiroquai. :)

I would also add Will Downing and Prince to the list. Even though Prince is "a star," I still think much of his work does not get the recognition it deserves.

Jamiroquai - Now that's what I'm talking about!!! I have all but their first album. The group has been slept on by the US, but are very successful in the UK and the rest of Europe. IMO, their album, "Traveling Without Moving" ("Virtual Insanity is on that one) is their best work. The other 4 albums are heavily rotated.

Dee-Lite - Althought they are remembered for "Groove is in the Heart", the album, "World Clique" had some very good songs with very good dance beats to go along.

Brand New Heavies - Please come back, I miss you guys. :(

I also think Lil' Mo is underrated. I believe if she was with the right people, she would have a greater impact on the music industry. That girl can sang!

A Couple of Canadian Artists

Jarvis Church - smooth R&B with a pop edge. Think Musiq.

K-Os - 'backpack' hip-hop. The best and most underrated hip-hop album of 2001. He toured with India.Arie in 2001-2002.

I agree!

I LOVE Ms. Lalah (Baby, Don't Cry is my song) and Mint Condition (Forever in Your Eyes)

I may be on a different tip, but I am on the verge of stalking JON B

I LOVE HIM!!!!!!

His last CD was fantastic!

Tamia - she has a beautiful voice with great range - I hope this new album gets her the props that she's been deserving for so long

Aaliyah - her untimely death did bring some attention to her albums, but I recognized her as a great voice before then

Brian McKnight - go back to the first 2 albums to hear the real, honest, soul-wrenching musician that Brian was before he tried to mix in too much hip hop and pop - he's a great musician

I am with Ricky Smiley...He was on the Doug Banks show one morning and while talking about music, he just bursts out, "I think they need to bring back Mint Condition". He was talking about how they were a REAL band, with instruments and everything. I LOVEEEEE me some Mint Condition!

They are truly a band. I had the opportunity to hear them live twice. They visited my high school campus and I attended a show in Atlanta. Their greatest hits CD is a classic.

I need to check out Fertile Ground since they are getting rave reviews!
