"Thi is a good story about an FSU alum. He's not famous but he is rich, which is almost as good as famous. Harry Sargeant, Jr owns the largest fleet of ocean-going oil tankers in the world. He is an FSU Pike ('78) and his son Harry III is an '03 initiate. Harry wrote a check for the lead gift to build the chapter's new house. And, when he was in China last year pursuing an oil deal, he noticed his Chinese host had an old, vintage firetruck. Harry made that part of the deal, shipped the 1938 Chevvy back to the States for a full restoration job, then had it transported secretly to Tallahassee where it was his surprise gift to the chapter at groundbreaking."
...that is cool!!! |
I could be wrong, but I think that Sela Ward is still very active with Chi Omega. I've seen her in the Eleusis a few times.

Georgia Tech has friggin social quarters and a full dormitory on a complex which houses every brother with full high speed internet and availible meal plans! www.betapitke.org/facils.html GO BEACH!!! |
Doesn't Paul Newman contribute a portion of his food sales to Phi Tau's Hole in the Wall Gang?
Seems like more famous alums lend their name and wallet than their time. I'm happy with that, and if they can lend their time, then that's even better. |

My fraternity doesn't need to degrade itself by initiating men who acheived greatness independent of the influence of Phi Psi. Your broad generalization is a falicy. My guess is that its false for NPHC GLOs as well, but I just don't have the interest to do the research. Its already been shown to be false for Alpha Phi Alpha. |

Ken Blanchard FIJI Cornell '61 Coauthor of The One Minute Manager just completed working with the International Headquarters on Phase I "Taking the lead when you are not in charge" of a three phase project that focuses on leadership education for members.
Stuart Evey one of the founders of ESPN also sat on the fraternity's Board of Directors |
Senator Richard Lugar is still very active with Beta Theta Pi and currently serves as the spokesman for the Men of Principle Initiative. I wouldn't be suprised to see his face show up on some more of our Upon these Principles capital campaign too.
Lugar is also very present at Convention, usually helping to hand out awards and pose for pictures with the winners. One thing that Beta has begun in the past couple of years is the creation of our Francis W. Shepardson award for alumni contribution. This is an award that directly recognizes the support alumni give to Beta, while our Oxford Cup award recognizes achievement outside the fraternity. |

Newman is a Phi Kappa Tau, so I always assumed that connection was why they adopted it as their philanthropy. |
