Senator Richard Lugar is still very active with Beta Theta Pi and currently serves as the spokesman for the Men of Principle Initiative. I wouldn't be suprised to see his face show up on some more of our Upon these Principles capital campaign too.

Lugar is also very present at Convention, usually helping to hand out awards and pose for pictures with the winners.

One thing that Beta has begun in the past couple of years is the creation of our Francis W. Shepardson award for alumni contribution. This is an award that directly recognizes the support alumni give to Beta, while our Oxford Cup award recognizes achievement outside the fraternity.

He does. He started it and named it after Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid's gang (much like Kappa Sigma's Robert Redford named his film festival "Sundance").

Newman is a Phi Kappa Tau, so I always assumed that connection was why they adopted it as their philanthropy.
