A couple of weekends ago, I was walking down the street with my 6-year-old daughter and switched sides, making her walk on the inside of me, away from street traffic. Granted, it was little young for a chivalry lesson, but at least she knows that "boys are supposed to walk closest to the cars."

I commend you because it if wasn't for my father I wouldn't know what chivlary was and how a man is supposed to treat me.

thanks, squirrley girl and skeeliteful.

I'm just trying to show my two the right way. I used to take my girls on "daddy-daughter" dates (although my 11 year-old rolls her eyes at the mere thought of such, now). But we'd hang at the mall, and I buy em pretzels, or even flowers if they wanted.

the idea being that I don't want them overly impressed when some future suitor does likewise. I want them to think "my daddy showed me how I'm supposed to be treated and while I appreciate what you've done, I really expect proper treatment."

... of course, this all assumes these future would-be suitors don't meet with a mysteriously tragic and unfortunate end. :p

I am a firm believer that people will only treat you how you allow them to and if you tell your mate that you appreciate chivalry, they will respond, if they are into your needs. My husband is great at chivalry. So all bruthas are not without chivalry, some just need help knowing our needs and likes. But I also believe it should go both ways like in A Bronx Tale. The woman should reach over on unlock the door or open the door for her man as he did for her. Reciprocity goes a long way in a relationship. :)

I think that I could live withouth chivalry if I could see Courting and Romance again.

Maybe you were being serious, but this first sentence made me LMAO.

I was Courted several times by chivalrous suitors. Know what? I think I took it for granted because that's just expected from me and mine.

I completely agree! My boyfriend is very conscientous and considerate but he does forget sometimes. When I remind him that I really appreciate it, he goes all out. I think men like the praise that we give. Also, reciprocity is a must! :)

Girl I know what you mean, my husband forgets also but like you said once you remind them that you love when they do those things, they return to the same tactics.
