I agree that you shouldn't show up for recruitment (or a job interview) dirty, smelling, swearing, etc. - but people do it all the time. Check out the "rushee from hell" thread in the rush forum - it's full of stories of PNMs giving sisters the finger, being rude, or just plain doing something weird.

You don't have to be a perfect lady or gentleman to get into a GLO (heaven knows I'm not a perfect lady ;) ) but you should at least display basic manners during recruitment. You're a guest at someone's house, for heaven's sake!

Anyway, I think that if someone like I described (a rude, uncouth woman who happens to be a legacy) had come through my chapter's rush, we would have invited her back as a courtesy to our sister to whom she's related. We'd have tried to limit her interaction with other PNMs (maybe by taking her on a reallllly long house tour :p ). Then, we'd have cut her after round 2.

I don't know if this has been brought up yet, but some chapters get more legacies coming through through than available spots...

Now on to my opinion:
I have seen my chapter take shy, scared, awkward freshmen and turn them into confident young women ready for the real world. I can certainly name quite a few things that I improved on myself in four years.

So I think it boils down to what she wants. If the legacy has her heart on being an XYZ, I can't imagine that many problems that couldn't be improved upon.

That's so sad, Honey! :( In Delta Zeta (and I'm sure ADII is the same way), it's a tremendous honor to be initiated at Convention. It's a shame that THE LEGACY got to do that instead of someone the experience would have meant something to.

At my school, lost quite a few legacies to other chapters in the last couple years. I'm not sure why, but that's just how it happened and the most heartbreaking one was this a recent Fall Rush. One of our sisters' little sister was a freshman and went through Formal Rush. She was in love with our chapter and our chapter loved her and up until Preference, we were 100% sure she would go Alpha Phi. Well, it comes time for Bid Day and we find out she went to another chapter. It was so upsetting and our sister was pretty upset. Her younger sister was crying all through Bid Day because she didn't want to disappoint her sister. Initially we were disappointed, because she was awesome, but then we realized she needed to be where she felt she belonged. All was fine until some dirty info came out of the woodwork. It "is rumored" that her Rho Chi, whom she fell in love with, revealed herself. That's the chapter she went to, and her Rho Chi is, shock that, her Big Sister. My sorority little sister in our chapter is friends with her and says that she isn't happy with her decision. :(

I have a question, what would happen if a group's RFM numbers required inviting 100 PNMs to round two, but they had 105 legacies going through? (assuming the group required legacies receive at least one invitation...) Or if there were so many legacies that only, say 5% of the invites could be extended to non-legacies?
I realize this is a little far fetched, but it seems plausible enough to have been considered...

RFM doesn't care about legacy numbers. The organization is responsible for MS whether that means keeping all the legacies or cutting some.

I've wondered about this too. I think sadly the huge legacy schools are probably going to have to resort to special consideration but no guaranteed invitations at all. Maybe someone who handles the numbers at a Bama or UT can tell us if they think this is going to become an issue soon?
