I have to say that I am very surprised that NCSU is expanding yet again. I was an advisor to one of the sororities there (that is still there) and the rush numbers in the last 5-7 years did not support bringing in another group. I can understand inviting one group after one left, but I do not believe that all the groups have been consistently taking quota and maintaining total right now (from what I have heard). Although there are a large number of unaffiliated women on NCSU's campus, the interest in Greek life doesn't seem to be there, or at least the groups are unable to convince these women to register for rush. I know that Panhellenic has worked to market Greek life to the campus and has tried moving around the rush dates in hopes of having more registrants. I just don't know how successful those efforts have been and if I were a group considering expansion, I might think twice about NCSU right now.
Yes, it is exciting to be the new group recolonizing, and to be in a Panhellenic system expanding, but the numbers and the interest need to support the expansion, and I just don't see it. On a side note, the school administration has not been very supportive of the Greek system at NC State, specifically when it comes to the housing situation. Katherine Williams |
Any updates?
I think presentations are this month.... or soon, anyway. |
We had an AZD chapter back in the early 90's but it closed.
I agree with Karen Williams, the campus is very hostile to Greek life. I guess thats what you get at a Science/Engineering school. Also, on campus housing is ridiculous in price. My boyfriends fraternity has 19 brothers living in the house and pay 120,000$ a year last time i checked. Also, the houses are crusty, except the sorority houses, which the girls keep looking very nice. For this new group to be competitive, they are going to have to be a big southern group that is extrmely popular, it would help if they were big at UNC also. I think tri delt would be a great option, but then again my best friends are tri delts at clemson Just don't bring back Alpha Phi, but I think they won't really try because there are still about 12 of us on campus. |

There are updates, more will come shortly as well - presentation dates have been set - I don't have my calendar book with me right now, I can give general ideas. Three groups are being invited to present (it has not been announced who though) and the dates are one in late February, then two in early March. 20 representatives from each sorority are invited to attend each presentation and will be asked for input. I will be there on behalf of DG in that capacity and will be able to give much more information soon!! Despite my hesitations, expansion WILL happen, so I'm getting excited about it and will support the new group on campus 100%. |
Just found out!!! The following groups have been invited to make presentations at NCSU for a chance at expansion:
KAPPA DELTA DELTA DELTA DELTA and PI BETA PHI Congrat's to those organization's!! I can't wait to see all of the presentations! |

YAY! Paging breathesgelatin...... werent we talking about how we wanted more pi phi chapters in NC on the pi phi boards?? However, those are three strong groups...so whoever gets it, will def. be awesome! |
woohoo! thanks for the scoop! Go KD!
|
Congrats to NC State for getting one of three great groups!
Where are our Delta girls to celebrate? |
OMG
Y'all don't know how badly I want this for Pi Phi. I seriously would get RIFs for all my friends!!!! However, I can think Panhellenically! Good luck to everyone with the presentations! Txsurfinwaves--this is so ironic 'cause I literally posted like two days ago about how we needed more Carolina chapters! |
I'm here HotDamn!
Yay for Tridelta...I hope our presentation goes well...I think we have a pretty strong presense in NC that will hopefully help! Good Luck to all of the groups but sending good vibes to our Tridelta presenters! |
Woohoo!
Hope the presentation goes well. I wish I could see something like that; it's gotta be fascinating. Are you Deltas wheeling in Posidon for this one in the special converted van, or what? |
Well HotDamn...
maybe DolphinChica can correct me if I am wrong since Stockon was just colonized but what I hear is that Posiden does go to all of our Tridelta presentation. He actually performs a spiffy little song and dance number which includes several Tridelts dressed up as pine trees, pearls, pansies and of course a couple of dolphins... all set to the tunes of "Cats". I've also heard that Posiden's voice is pretty decent... sounds a little like a young Wayne Newton. Finally, they end the presentation with a dramatic yet awe-inspiring retelling of the founding of Tridelta through the use of mimes with Posiden portraying the part of Eleanor Dorcus. So, as you can see, we are a sure lock for NCSU...Pi Phi and KD, you better watch out Posiden is coming to Raleigh! |

BWAHAHAHA..... annnnnd this gets my vote for best description of a colonization presentation EVER. Brought to you locally by our very own TriDeltaGal. :D |

Ya know, I believe that IS the same presentation we saw. Unfortantly, Posiden was sick that evening, so we had to see his understudy. But at least he came to Installation. |

Interesting -- I know both Tri Delta and Pi Phi are big in the south. How's KD, southern-wise? |
