My future wife is in kindergarten right now. I don't care what race, religion, or creed her dolls are as long as they wear short skirts, revealing tops, and have massive cleavage.

Does anyone else like the American Girl series of dolls? I wonder is there one of Middle Eastern heritage? Hmm, let me search and see....

As for American Girl, I think they're pretty cute. I don't know how much they are, but aren't they pretty expensive compared to Barbie? I don't think there's a Middle Eastern one--yet. The Latina is pretty new (my niece is a big dan), and the AfAm one was one of the last original dolls.

This is a great doll...If anything can help a young girl grow into an emotionally healthy woman, it's good....

Yes, they are (just for the doll and her book its about $90), but I love them! Josefina (the Latin one) is pretty. I like Abby (the AfAm one) too. Abby's story is really interesting.

I just checked and you're right, they don't have a Middle Eastern One in the original collection. But you can make a doll that looks like you since they come in a bunch of skintones, eye colors, hair types/lengths.

Ahhh, I can't wait to have a little girl! :D

That's an understatement! As the father of a little girl, I can assure you that they are ridiculously overpriced. While the stories and variety are commendable and good, the quality of the products, imo, is nowhere near what one should be able to expect for the price.

I had a pretty realistic view of the world as a kid, and you just couldn't sell me on the sugary sweetness and light for historical Af-Am characters- even fictional ones. I knew that chances were high that her life was full of misery and pain so I wasn't buying that fairy tale.

The Muslim doll is great- I especially like that they are coming out with versions that have careers. Positive role models are so key.

This thread has helped me realize that the dolls I played with have probably caused me unknown psychological harm. I never had a Hispanic Barbie. Since my mother is from Spain, and I'm half Spanish, I am convinced that my playing with only White and African American Barbies has probably negatively effected my self esteem and world view. I played with White Barbies and African American Barbies, and to this day, I don't see the Caucasian as my enemy nor do I view the African American as being incapable. OMG! I actually remember that two of my black Barbies originally came as a teacher and a doctor. Most of my white Barbies were probably dumb blondes, and I never knew! If only I could have had a Barbie that represented me. Better yet, I should have had one of the Af-Am dolls lovelyivy84 spoke of whose life was filled with misery and pain. Perhaps then, I would better understand the world.
