I don't mind people asking for prayers on GC, because hey, if I don't want to pray for them nobody's going to know. But in the "real world" I think asking for prayers is a little rude and can make some people uncomfortable.

Ditto on the "Just don't read it" points made by wptw.

DON'T FREAKIN READ IT!

To concur with LouisaMay........

DON'T YOU DARE APOLOGIZE FOR ASKING FOR PRAYER ON THIS BOARD!!!! :( If you need prayer, you need it - and believe me there are PLENTY of people on here that are more than happy to do it.

I am sure that everyone registered on GC can find at least one topic that they are offended by in some way or another. If we were to stop posting topics because of this, this board would be blank.

Exactly a point I was about to make. I personally am offended by a few topics that are posted on this board QUITE frequently. So does that mean people are going to stop posting about it? Hell no. The people who post those things don't care if I'm offended and they'll post whatever they want to post. Why should it be different when they are the ones offended? Kind of hypocritical, no?

Let’s see if I’ve understood you correctly:
So because you’ve been offended by some threads at GC, you should be able to start a few offensive ones of your own? Hmm, I like this idea. Kind of unChristian though, no?

Hmm, that's not what I said at all, actually. I haven't even started a thread about praying, but I do support the people that have started them. What I was trying to get across was that there are a variety of people that are offended by various things and that's the way it will always be. If people have to stop asking for prayers, then everything that is offensive should have to be stopped, as well. I don't think GC is here to cater to the non-believers and no one else. It's not here to cater to anyone, really.

This logic doesn't work you're way either and that is totally not what she said. She is simply saying that in some way or another, EVERY person will find a thread on GC that offends them personally. Lord knows, i have seen my share.

Its simple...if there is a thread titled "please pray for.." and you don't want to view it, then don't view it. Just like if there is a thread titles "does your junk smell" and I don't want to view it, then I don't.

This arguement really doesn't require some long, cleverly-written response. For once, I really do think the phrase "don't view it" really is applicalbe.

DZHB,

Yeah, I knew what you were trying to say the first time. It came across clearer the second time, though.

Well ultimately, I agree with you. I’ve always been an advocate of a minimum skin thickness prerequisite to get a GC username. I’m of the minority opinion on a lot of issues, so I completely expect to see a lot viewpoints that I find ridiculous. Not really a big deal. Sometimes you just gotta bow to the will of the majority.

(I imagine Jehovah’s Witnesses feel the same way when they pay $65 for a ticket to a football game and the announcer tells the crowd of 50,000 people to please rise for the singing of the national anthem.)

Then I shall give you a short, uncleverly written response:

Gurk!

(majority rules, after all)

tkeos443 09-15-2003 03:42 PM

not always

The Grapist 09-16-2003 04:20 PM

The Grapist just wants pray.

Why won't you let the Grapist pray? :(

MTSUGURL 09-16-2003 04:45 PM

In person, I always reserve asking for prayer for those people that I know DO pray. Why would I waste my breath otherwise?
On GC, if someone asks for prayer, I always pray. I have asked specific people here to pray for me. I've seen so many offensive thread (titles) or even ones that look like they may be offensive. Know what I do? I DON'T READ THEM. I do care if I offend people, and I hope that I don't, but I expect that if you don't want to read about prayer, you're smart enough not to read a thread with the words, "Please pray..." in the title.

Absolutely. Folks these days need to be a lot more thick-skinned. You're not ever going to be a happy person if you go through life looking for people to "offend" you and then forcing them to take back their words or something.

If someone is offended by hearing the words "pray for ___" the only response that I can really come up with is "Get a life".

excellent post!

although i never pray for any of the requests, i don't understand how people could be offended by it???

get a life!

Optimist Prime 09-16-2003 05:31 PM

This thread shouldn't have been moved. It has as much to do with the greek life forum as all those stupid prayer requests. Please stop praying, its pointless.
