Ok, everyone.
I have already appologized to the AOIIs, and I will do so again. I did not mean to insult your sorority's traditions. When I first read your badge policy, it was the first time that I had heard of a GLO requiring their badge to be worn above another. I didn't realize so many other GLOs had the same policy. I *still* think it's a shame that a girl in two GLOs couldn't wear both the badges at the same time. And that's fine for many of you to disagree with me. But just udnerstand that I'm used to a GLO that requires the badge to be worn on the same level as another. Just as many of you are used to and feel stronly about YOUR badge policy, I feel strongly about mine. Things like this, there ARE no "right" answers. I'll feel the way I do, and you'll feel the way you do. And that's fine. Sometimes the best thing to do is just to agree to disagree. |
*bump*
it's an interesting thread..... ETA- KD has the same policy. I don't know why someone would necessarily want to wear both at the same time. Poking extra holes in your clothing, plus it would probably look a little tacky and they might clash with each other. The whole put on all the jewlery you want to wear then take off a piece idea so that you don't look overdone..... :) |
At Auburn, it was a big deal to be able to wear the pins of your honoraries with your NPC/NIC pin. You wouldn't wear a regular-sized honorary pin with it--they cost extra anyway--but rather the tiny ones with the interlocked letters. The more the merrier.
Therefore, just below my arrow and encircled by the chain of my guard, I would wear my tiny Alpha Zeta, Pi Alpha Xi, and Omicron Delta Kappa pins. I had others but more than that took too long to put on! Other people, however, would wear 6 or more honorary pins with their NPC/NIC pins. |
i agree-- only wear one at a time. i can understand why you would maybe want to wear both at the same time, but that would place more importance on one than the other.
Alpha Xi Delta has the same policy -- "Nothing is worn above the Quill or new member pin. For example, if you accept a man's fraternity pin, place it beneath the Quill. Keep the arrnagement simple and uncluttered, removing chains, guards, and dangles as necessary." (the bonds of sisterhood-- our new member manual) |
this thread made me take a second to look through the pins that I have:
Kappa Delta Phi Alpha Delta Omicron Delta Kappa Mortar Board Phi Eta Sigma Order of Omega and I think there's others that I can't find. Plus add in stuff from high school, i'd be wearing about 20 pounds of metal :p How would you rank what goes above another pin? Lol. |
Well, exactly! That's why I just wore three--and when I wore my pin, I was wearing a nice outfit too and I didn't want it full of holes. You didn't rank one honorary pin above the rest, you just scattered them under your GLO pin..I don't recall anyone getting grief about the order.
This was considered a big deal because Auburn's sororities are very achievement-oriented; go to any of the sorority websites at www.auburn.edu and you'll see pages of each member's achievements. This is one way that Auburn PNMs choose their sorority--they look at the sites and they might say, "I want to be in student government and all those ABCs in SGA could help me with that" or "all the cheerleaders in DEF could help me get on the squad," or heaven forbid, "looks like XYZ has tons of members in all the cool groups so I want to be an XYZ. Only an XYZ." Last week, I met a recent Auburn grad/Alpha Xi alum and she said no sorority at Auburn sucks--they're all big!:) |
carnation, very good point!!!
I am a LXA First, a Beta Chi Second (the local that I started), an Alpha Phi Omega Third, and our History includes ( as a LXA, Pi Kappa Delta, and Theta Kappa Nu) So are any of You Pure or just Hybrids. ?? Study the History Of TKN, they were Founded out of a Group of Local Fraternitys to form TKN. TKN Merged with LXA in 1939! BX affiliated with LXA in 1966. Ah History is Fantastic, do you know yours??????? |
I guess it just depends on what you're used to...and what kind of GLO. People in more than one music GLO...for instance, we have a sister who is also in Tau Beta Sigma...always wear BOTH their pins at the same time. I guess that's just what I'm used to...so I didn't realize that NPC sororities were a bit different. :)

SAI-
I'm glad you're open to learning how different all GLOs are from each other! Even though it's not what you're used to, I think everyone agrees that no certain GLO is in the right while the other is in the wrong. Each just has different standards and beliefs on the issue. Kappa, I believe, has the same regulations most other NPC groups have on how the badge is worn, specifically that it is worn on the left side. I remember, when I was on Panhellenic Executive, we always wore both badges to meetings, and the Panhellenic Badge was below and to the left. (To show you how silly I am, I even have it below and to the left of my Kappa badge on my badge pillow! ;) ) Again, I think many good suggestions have been given: wearing only the immediate applicable badge to an event, wearing the solo badge and an honorary badge of the other organization or wearing one badge and some other sort of signifiaction of membership in the other organization. These are all wonderful suggestions and I think neither organization would feel slighted in any of those options. Hopefully if a similar situation does happen in your organization, you can give some helpful advice to the person! :) |
