I don't sweat it if my husband doesn't wear his ring. He is NOT a jewlery wearer and has a tendency to lose things (in his previous marriage he lost the wedding ring pretty quickly)
It seems like the women who hit on the men with the bands aim to hit on ones that are out of towners... On a business trip for a quick fling. Vegas is a place that is notorious for this. |

He's never worn jewelry before (not even a watch), but he loves that ring. It came about because he really liked some of the "fancier" rings, but we were worried that if he had one for his wedding band, it wouldn't stand up to 50+ years of wear and tear. I had suggested that he have a 'fancy' ring and a plainer, more durable ring, and it could be the same as women's rings... the fancy engagement ring, and the more durable wedding ring. I didn't expect him to go for it, but he thought it was a great idea. It seems to be a new trend... several of my friends' husbands/fiances have engagement rings too. I think it's wonderful! |
what if he got fat and the ring hurts?

My husband wears his all the time with the exception of when he is in situations at work when there is a possibility of losing a finger in a press or piece of machinery.
I always wear my ring. I wear it to bed, in the shower, everywhere...the only time my ring comes off is when I clean it and when my arthritis acts up. One of my friends who just got married rarely wears her ring. I told her husband that for the amount of money that he spent on that ring she should be wearing it all the time! |
Ah, the story of my husband and his engagement ring... :)
After we got engaged, we picked out a ring for me together, but never discussed the idea of a ring for him. A few months later, we went out for dinner with another couple we're friends with, who were engaged at the time (now happily married). Mr. aephi alum noticed that our friend was wearing a band on his left ring finger, and asked about it. He said it was his engagement ring. Mr. aephi alum turned to me and said, in a mock pouty voice, "Where's myyy engagement ring??" :) I hadn't even known he wanted one, and he hadn't said anything to me before then. I asked if he was serious, he said yes, and so we picked out a ring for him. His ring is a narrow yellow-gold band with a few channel-set diamonds. He still wears it with his wedding band. Our friend had a really unusual ring - a wide band with a Hebrew inscription that translates to "I am my beloved's and my beloved is mine." He doesn't wear it any more, though - it was too wide to wear with his wedding band. |
I am not yet married, but I am strongly committed to my boyfriend and he is to me. He gave me a "promise ring" type of thing about 2 years ago, and if I come over after taking a shower and I forget to put it on, he gets a really hurt look in his eye. I would probably feel the same if he had a ring that he didnt wear, that I gave him of course!

So I was reading through old threads and just had to bump this one up after something that happened over the weekend.
A lot of people in my hometown go to a local bar on Friday nights. Well my friends notice that a guy we will call Kevin has come in with his guy friends to the bar. A week ago he got married. Keep in mine he has known the girl less than a year, they met completely wasted at a club, and he JUST graduated in May from college and doesn't know what he is doing with his life. Nevertheless, I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and believe that he was truly "in love" with this girl. Well we notice that Kevin isnt wearing his ring! One of our guy friends yells "Hey Kevin, where's your ring?" and he just laughed and said, "I can't hear you!" and totally playing it off. Who goes to a bar a WEEK after their wedding without their wife OR their ring? |

Just putting my .02 in for this topic.
As a police officer, my fiance will not wear his wedding ring after the wedding. Reason being is that we were told shortly after our engagement that b/c of the city he works in & the high # of crimes & gangs there, it's best to leave any personal things like wedding rings at home b/c you never know what can happen. Perhaps gang members want retribution against you for locking them or other associates up. It's better for them to know as little as possible about you including your status. |
My husband is a sheriffs deputy (in LA) and takes his ring off while at work for a lot of the reasons listed above. When he's not at work, it goes back on.

I feel safe saying that this is one of the dumbest threads in the history of greekchat. I wish I could contribute more, but even I lack that patience.

I'm married 10 years and my DH never takes his rings off...however, there are many situations where I won't wear my wedding rings...they're too expensive and I don't want to ruin them or lose them. When I go to the gym or SCUBA diving, I leave the rings at home.
However, in social situations, I always have my rings on. |

I'm thinking of starting that up as a hobby. Like I want to go to coral reefs and dive, though. I live in Miami, FLA and coral reefs arent far away in the carribean. Is it expensive to start up? And how much gear do you need..... Tips? |
