My name is Aimée - pronounced A-may - its French for Amy.
There's not much you can do with it, so I never had any nicknames. My family always called me MayMay when I was little -and my younger cousins still call me that - its just easier for them to say - but I never used it amongst my friends It REALLY REALLY bugs me when people say my name as AHH-may. It's got a LONG A sound - its really not that hard, but people have the worst time with it. |
I had to grow up with the most grown-up sounding name I can imagine: Carol. Seriously. Mom and Dad were going to name me Heather, but they thought there was too much that would rhyme with it and people might make fun... Like Feather, Leather, Pleather. So instead, I got the joy of growing up with the wonderful (sarcasm) Poltergeist lines... "Carol Anne... come towards the light." (middle name is Anne- they cursed me). I wish I could change my name. :(

I'm also a victim of the Carol Ann taunts!

I went by Alexis since my sophomore year in high school. In college, I was Lex, Lexis, Lexie, Allie, etc. When I got hired on as administrative support tech to the Director of Corporate Facilities Management. I was Alexis for about 2 months. Finally, Lexee started appearing on my memos. People would email 'Lex' and 'Lexis'.
So, I gave up and let them go by the shortened versions. |

As for me.. Like Hootie said, there's not too much you can do with Amy . I've never had a nick name that EVERYone's called me, but some of the favorites among certain small groups of friends are Ames, Aim, Aney, Barg (long story, kinda like my last name), Amy Lou, Amy Lynn, Amy Leigh Anne, Amy LaBelle, and Amy Lee. Out of all those names, Amy LaBelle is the real one. I'm so sick of being just Amy that I'm thinking of going by Amy LaBelle. Anyone like that? |

Haha, I actually think I went backwards! My name is Carolyn Joyce and through-out childhood, everyone called me Carolyn. When I got into high school I was best friends with a girl named Amanda Jo, so she became AJ and I became CJ (just between the two of us)...but when I headed off to college everyone randomly started calling me CJ! So now that is what most of my friends call me. However, when I joined DG I introduced myself as Carolyn (because I thought it sounded more grown up)...so that is what most of my sisters call me...though some use CJ, which I love!

My name's Carrie. When I was little, there were like 5 of us, and of course NO ONE spelled it the same way. (There are just waaay to many spellings of this name!)
But as I've gotten older I don't run it to it as much. My mom calls me Lucy sometimes, because of a nursery rhyme I used to sing (& mess up). That's the only nickname I've ever had, and she's the only one that's ever called me that. For all of you Amy's- one of my best friends (high school & college) is an Amy. Her nickname? Bad Dog. I've called her that almost since we met (long story). She's a year younger than me, and went to a different college. But then she transferred after her freshman year to the same school I went to for the music program. And she was like "I'd really like to go by Amy" because all of her hs friends called her Bad Dog, and when she went to her 1st college she finally got everyone to call her Amy (because they didn't know BadDog). I tried, but for one thing, my friends had already heard all of these stories about Bad Dog. Plus it was hard. I tried, but wasn't too successful. Sometimes I remembered, but most of the time it was Bad Dog. So there are worse things than Amy. ;) |

My mom named me Sheila so I wouldn't get nicknames, but I did anyway (Shy, Shee etc). I just thank God in the sky above that she didn't go along with her friend who jokingly wrote "for little Robert or Roberta" (!) on the baby gift. (Robert is my dad) Her cousin wanted me to be Tana...which I kind of dig...but I don't think I am a Tana. My cousin is Gloria Jean (who I think was an old movie star) and in the family we have never called her anything but Jeanie. Add to that that she's been married since I was very tiny and I always think of her by her married name. So when someone asked me once if I was related to Gloria mylastname, I just stared at them like "huh"? oh, someone mentioned about the "old" sounding names. I think it will be hilarious when all the Tiffanys and Ashleys are in their 80's and Gertrude and Edna are the new "hip" names. ;) |
I'm Dana to my college friends & lifetime 'aquantinces', Day to my high school friends, and Dayday to my mom (-:
