I have a feeling that the very nature of being active on GreekChat presupposes that we are active in our GLOs.....

When I first crossed my life did revolve around greek life. And it still does in some respects. I'm very active in my sorority and want to be a national officer (International President Epitome has a nice ring to it). However, my focus has switched. Instead of being NPHC-centric I have branched out and have learned a great deal about NIC, PHC, MGC, NALFO groups. I got a copy of PHC's green book and it's been really eye opening.

I don't like this alumnae thing. I like being active and holding positions and most of all I MISS RECRUITMENT!!! I'd love to help my chapter out as a chapter advisor of some sort, but they recommend that everyone who we were active with graduates first. :( |
I have to take this semester off from school due to financial reasons and go inactive temporarily in DPhiE (saddest thing EVER for me), but I'm still going to be living practically on campus with an active sister, so for as much as Headquarters allows me to, I am going to continue majoring in Delta Phi Epsilon even while I'm not taking classes. Has anyone else ever had to go inactive for a semester? Was it hard for you?
I'm concerned because I've seen sisters go inactive and just drop off the face of the earth and I do NOT want that to happen to me. |
I do love Sigma very much, but I wouldn't say I "major" in it. I spend alot of time helping out and doing lots of extra stuff, and I think up lots of cool and fun program ideas, BUT school and my Dean's List GPA come first because if I don't do well in school, I'm not living up to my personal standards or those of my organization. :)

I majored in sorority and now I guess you could say I'm getting my PhD...
I am so invovled as an alum... - Alumnae Chapter President - Chapter Association President - Collegiate Chapter Adviser - And most recently I accepted a position on the National level!! |
When I was a sister of Phi Gamma Pi, especially when I was president, I felt like I majored in Phi Gam and minored in Kappa Phi. It really affected my GPA and I learned my lesson.

My mom is not like that at all. Thank goodness. She loves the organization and what it does for me. I guess if there is anything she has her "two cents" about, it's the extra cash I pour into the organization. You know, other than dues.
But anyway, lately it does seem as if I am majoring in DPhiE, but that is only because we are so new and someone needs to lay the groundwork. I am also super glad our Int'l office is still very much involved with us, that helps out a lot. ( I know I'm probably the only one with no problem in that) International/National sororities are about three years old on our campus. A joke with our advisors is they will be receiving their masters in DPhiE, because of their huge binders. My boyfriend is another story. If his non-greek butt doesn't shape up I'll start looking elsewhere. :p Any takers?? Just kidding. |
I'm probably one of the proudest members of my chapter, though I can think of a few more that absolutely love their letters and are 'Gamma Phi til they die.'
One reason I'm so proud is because I'm a legacy. I think being a legacy makes you feel even closer to your GLO. I know the most about sororities in general, though, out of everyone in the chapter. |
I probably didn't really major in sorority since I was not real active as a collegian (yes I went to the required stuff but never held an office) but that had a lot to do with the fact that I transferred schools in the middle.
But as an alumna I'm in the PhD category as well. Charter member of my alumnae chapter and former President Former Scholarship Advisor HCB Treasurer Badge Task Force Chair Nominating Committee Member Alumnae Extension Coordinator Alumnae Panhellenic Founder and current President |
I personally wouldn't say that I'm die hard Sigma Kappa HOWEVER some of the ladies of my house have said more than once that I bleed the violet & maroon (which I dispute b/c I bleed Dodger BLUE). Anyway, I have also been told that if all the actives were as excited & full of spirit as I end to be, our chapter would be better off & our morale would always be sky-high.
I find this flattering but there are ladies out there who take more active roles than I ever have & don't get enough credit. |
