I wanna expand to Chapman University in Orange, California, but nobody agrees

Mooch279 08-11-2003 08:54 AM

Catholic Univ.

We did have a colony their for only about six months. But from what i hear they had a lot of problems. We absorbed an already existing local. CU doesn't have greeks now. not sure if it by choice or if the school doesn't allow them.

American on the other hand has a pretty strong greek life and on the other side of DC, just above GW i believe.

A brother from the university of South Carolina Aiken

Yeah, We've only been in existince for about a semester now as Lambda Chi. I did have a chance to work with Shane Foley, the ELC Lifesaver was talking about. Definitely a cool guy who helped us out a lot while we were adjusting from a local Fraternity to LCA. I was lookin around the GC and was surprised to see someone talking about USCA. We are hoping to get our charter after this semester, we are really working hard to get all of the requirements filled out and im looking forward to the chartering banquet. The alumni help is great as well we have had a lot of support from the alumni in the aiken, columbia, augusta area. But rush is coming up and im the Delta so I've been busting my A$$ to get ready for and im definitely confident in picking up a lot of quality guys this fall during Formal and Informal rush.

Brother Jarod, Welcome to GC! Please keep us posted on USCA doings.

Hope all chapters will do well!

We closed our House and are in the process of trying to get a new one built. It is sad when you are used to having a central point to get with the Brothers.:(

Wont seem like the same till we get a new house!

new info

Based on some rumors and hearsay that I can pick up from the denizens on the net

I think, now mind you I think but dont take this as the facts here,

That we are re-colonizing at Spring Hill College (delta-delta)
and at University of Calgary (delta-zeta)

Not that I would know from lca.org or from the cross and crescent I still havent gotten.......

Where is Spring Hill?

Some day I'd like to spend some quality time with the expansion gurus and see how they weigh all the different factors involved.

A couple of years ago we attempted to go to Chapman University and lost the 'beauty paegent' that the university made us participate in. As far as i know we have closed the book on Chapman and I'm curious why. If the interest was there in 2001, how did it fall off the screen in 2003?

lenoxxx 09-24-2003 06:22 PM

Rumors?

Rumor has it we are colonizing soon at South East Oklahoma State University.

If true, way to go Lambda Chi Alpha!

I would like to see a chapter or two open up in New Jersey.

Are there any in the works?

What happened to the chapter at Rutgers?

Lenoxxx, is that the school in Edmon,Ok?

Also ask same question, Where is Spring Hill?

boz130 09-24-2003 07:12 PM

For the record, Southeastern Oklahoma State is in Durant, and Spring Hill College of the Society of Jesus is in Mobile, AL. Having the NIC Directory helps a lot!

re: Rutgers

My memory may be bad, but wasn't the chapter at Rutgers
closed for something _really bad_??? I think the death
of an AM from alcohol intox? Seems I remember it made
national news back in the late 80's when I was active.

After it was on the news, parents of active LXA's were
calling their sons' college/univ admin and asking
"Is this what my son had to go thru to get into
LXA?" (it was some kind of drinking game, drinking
dozens of shots in a row, I think.) Dan Rather (NBC news)
reported the drinking game as "part of LXA's initiation ritual."

Of course, it was just a local tradition after their AM
ceremony. I _think_ that was Rutgers, but could be wrong.

Yes that is what happened to the Rutgers chapter. 1987 i think, it was the first real national attention to this kind of event. From what i hear LCA is still hated on that campus to this day, understandibly so. But from that the Iota position was created and we were the first fraternity to establish risk management standards if im not mistaken.

1980's hate

The wacky thing about people Hating LCA from the 1980's is almost ridiculous now. Look at a 1987 composite now, it is like aliens from another planet. Yeah it was a tragedy that a college student died, but hanging onto those evil LCA's from 1987 is really starting to stretch it a bit. Heck, an AM died at Iowa in 1995 and they recolonized there like 2 years ago.

In reading the above post on expansion to Sring Hill College, it is a Jesuit school in Mobile, Al.

SE Ok. is in Durante.

A member of Pin Collectors Club said that there is a Premptor Presentation to a Sholl In San Antonieo Tx.

I dont rememer what school it is, but @ The Divine Light or something. Lifesaver would know as is in his back yard! It too is a Roman Catholic affiliated school. I do not understand why after I told Hdq about Shorter College, Rome Ga. Who wanted to do away with Locals and go with National only that we did not look at it!:(

But if a few of the Oldsters on here remember, I got my ass chewed out for copying you that it was none of my business.

Well maybe we are expanding, and re-colonizing! I hope so!:)

re: Shorter

Shorter College might be a risky place to go right now. They
are in a big legal battle with the Ga. Baptist Convention...
basically they are in the process of "breaking away" from,
or at least distancing themselves from church control.

I am sure that allowing "Fraternities" (their locals were
probably called "social clubs", which are OK at "Christian"
colleges, but not "Fraternities") is one way the college
admin is "thumbing their nose" (or making moves in a
progressive direction) at the conservatives in the
church that they are battling.

This is just a guess, from someone who's been
in similar situations before.

Anyway, as you can see, our IHQ probably wouldn't
want to get in the middle of such a struggle...and if
the conservatives "win" Shorter, all the nationals
will be banned again anyway.

my 2 cents worth :)

P.S. I DO NOT LOOK LIKE A SPACE ALIEN ON THE 1987
COMPOSITE! I RESEMBLE, ER UM, RESENT THAT
REMARK!:D

P.S.S. Another reason a college would want to get rid
of locals is that locals don't have liability insurance like
nationals....but probably only a lawsuit involving a
local would prompt them in that direction...another
brainstorm
