There were a couple of areas near me in Connecticut that were street racing hangouts. One is called the Berlin Turnpike (now home to a Krispy Kreme), where there were long straightaways and people would race late at night, after the traffic died down. I believe that was before there was more commerce in the area though, and I don't think there's much racing anymore.
There were a couple of places in my hometown in Connecticut that it also happened. I had buddies in high school who used to go down there to do it; most of them were athletes who needed something to keep them busy out of season or when the liquor stores were closed.
