Hee hee, I have 6 young nieces and ALL of them have personalized sweatshirts that say "Future Alpha Gam" on them!

I am a little worried about the youngest...they just moved into a new house and my sister-in-law decorated her bedroom in a lovely pink and green color scheme! I scolded my sister-in-law and said, "What, are you purposely trying to get Emily to turn Delta Zeta?" ;)

Knowing all the great ladies on GC, though, I would be thrilled if my nieces just decided to go Greek! (My future daughters are another story, lol.)

My mom is a Phi Mu but they didn't have it where I rushed. So, if I ever have a daughter, she'll have two houses where she is a legacy (not to mention a few great connections with other houses).

Just like someone else mentioned, not that many people from my family even went to college. So, I don't have a lot to work with. :) The only person I know for sure is my cousin - he was a Sigma Chi at Arizona State U. around 93 - 96 ish.

This is a good question! I think I'm going to get on my family's listserve and ask!

I'm the first Greek in my family, but my future daughters will be KD legacies:)

I'm not a legacy to anything. Dad's cousin, who I like a lot is a Sigma Delta Tau, from the University of IL-Chicago. As for universities, I'm a double legacy to the University of Illinois, but that doesn't count :)

When I was in college, I went back to my elementary school to see my youngest sister in a play. I stopped by the office of the Reading Coordinator, who is by far one of the coolest women I have ever known, who's known me since I was 4. She was telling me that she too had planned to be a music teacher, but between her academics and pledge duties, the only time she could get a practice room was 5 am. I said "What group did you pledge?" and she replied "Pi Beta Phi." So I guess the moral of the story is that all great women go Greek. Or at least the ones that go to colleges with a Greek system.

I'm the first person to go Greek in my immediate family. Other relatives are:

I can't wait until I have children and who knows, maybe the girls will be Thetas. It doesn't really matter to me if they rush or not and where they pledge, just as long as they're happy.:D

I'm not technically a legacy but my nana is a Delta Zeta . . . My grandfather married her after my grandmother died but before I was born so she's the only grandmother I've ever known. She offered to write me a rec but 1) since we're not tecnically blood I didn't know if it would be a legacy rec and 2) the DZs on my campus are great but it just wasn't a good fit for me. I'm very happy where I'm at now. As a side note, with the increase in 'untraditional' families (stepchildren, adoption, and so forth) how is the greek system prepared to handle these types of families when it comes to legacy recs? For instance a woman and a man marry . . . this man has a daugther already. The woman raises the child from a young age but is not her blood mother. How would your orgs handle this?

Phi Mu recognizes step-daughters, step-sisters, and I believe step-granddaughters as well as daughters, sisters, and granddaughters.

My uncle is a Theta Xi from the same school I go to, and my 2nd cousin, his grandson, pledged Sigma Nu, but dropped. My sister was thinking about rushing an incoming sorority at IU a couple years ago (AOPi I think), but didn't end up doing it. My uncle said he thought about rushing at Ball State about 20 years ago, but was treated like crap when he went up to a party to ask directions (he's blind). that kind of turned him off to the system. I went to his house this weekend though, and he lives a block from the Lambda Chi house, and the rest of fraternity row. I went to their house, and it was locked up tight, and I couldn't get anyone to the door though.

AGD acknowledges the step-mother/daughter connection as a legacy but, as of now, I don't think we recognize other "blended family" connections.

I may be a little snakey k (Sigma Kappa), but i am legacy to two different houses on my campus. My mom was an Alpha Phi and my grandma was a Tri-Delta. Rush was pretty brutal because I felt pressure from both of them to join their house. But, I am happy that I became a Sigma Kappa, it has made my college experience wonderful.
