Girl, that room was terrible!! I don't know what in the world is going on with Kia. That room looked a mess. Doug's room was just as bad. That brown cow print + red accents + green sofa = one hot mess!

Soror45 10-13-2002 08:56 PM

I like to find something positive. So, Kia did use ivy pattern border in the room :). Before the day was out, I would have removed the astroturf and rocks from under the swing. You can possibly handle the rest of it. Doug's room wasn't good with that cow print. I did like the white room he did on the next show though.

I talked about Doug yesterday. I know if were the people working with him the directors would have yelled "Cut!" because I would have checked him right there about his attitude. He killed me when he said look if you don't want to do the wall finish fine, I'll do it myself. Stand to the side and you'll see the difference...I take my work seriously blah blah.... Another thing I would have checked him on was that old cheap looking wood. He was like, the thin pieces of wood are under the bottom of the pile so I'm about to go get some coffee and you ladies get it.....WTH?!

Kia...um was she sniffing paint thinner or what? I really don't know what was worst, the bricks around the bed, the astroturf gravesite, the picket fence, the rocks, or the swing in the bedroom? Have you ever said, "dang I need a picket fence around my bed. "All she needed to do was push the bed up against the window and spray paint RIP on the blinds and it could have acted as the tombstone. I hope her designs get better because right now, it can't get any worse. I see she likes purple and borders also.

Design wise, it competes as the worst Trading Spaces to date.

AGREED! At least it was a guest room though. If Kia did my actual bedroom like that, I would have showed slap out.

And Doug's short, stank, cut-and-dry attitude needs to be thrown out the window just like that couch in the fraternity house episode. One time one of the participants was giving a suggestion and she was babbling on, and Doug was like "Look are you gonna give me a chance to speak or are you just gonna keep on talking over me." I was like whaaaaaaa????

One of my favorite episodes was when that woman started crying over Doug's design in her living room (even though it was pretty good). I woulda been like "bitch, breathe"

*SIGH*

Y'all, I really want to like Kia. I'm REALLY trying. However, the madness has got to stop. At this point, I'm not feeling her or her designs. First of all, PLEASE do not sport capri overalls with one strap hanging down. Her gear and her propensity for borders are both so 80's. Now, I don't expect her to dress like Hildi and Geniveve (stilettos and and club wear), but the tight, see-through shirts also have got to go. Secondly, I need Kia to be better prepared for the show. At first I thought she needed to grow a backbone and stand up to the homeowners and carpenters. But after seeing her in action for the second time, I realized that she really does have some pretty sucky ideas and that people veto them for a reason. A swing hanging from the ceiling? An astroturf comforter with dollar store plastic flowers? Those freaking borders? Come on now, Kia. She has now actually earned the title of my least favorite designer on TS. Yes, even over Frank.

I agree that Doug's room was pretty horrible too. What was up with leaving those couches green? The logs on the wall? And I may be getting the episodes mixed up, but I would have had a fit if he would have had his dirty a$$ feet all up in my face. And did y'all see when he picked those brownies up with his feet? Ugh, just plain ol' nasty.

Had to post...

It's been about two weeks since I've posted on GC but when I watched Trading Spaces Saturday, I said "wait til I log on GC!" What in the hell was that ish Kia did?!?! I mean, for real y'all, that was too much! Let's start with the borders-she loves them damn borders! The swing in the room, the tree, that doll house, the fence, the BED, whew...it was too much drama! Now what happens when guess comes over for real? Do they sleep on that mess or what?!

That was definitely one of Doug's worst pieces of work. However, they said they wanted a cabin-like looking family room. So I think he did fairly decent since that's what they wanted. That girl was getting on my nerves too, so I think I would have gone off on her too. It was funny when he snapped on her! That was too much for me! Clearly, one of the worst trading spaces I've seen.

Is it just me or is Frank getting better with time. After that horrid TS went off, another one came on with Doug and Frank and I thought that Frank did splendidly. He's so artsy; I loved that rug that he drew under the table.

Doug did a great job with his room too. He made it look so pure and retro. I loved the white. That was a good TS!

See, I would have told ole Doug about himself and his dirty feet. Did you see Paige's face when the lady told her that Doug picked up the brownies with his feet? She was sooo disgusted! How selfish and childish can a person be in such a short amount of time?? No class, Doug, no class at all.

20Pearlz 10-15-2002 02:50 PM

Trading Spaces was a hot mess this weekend...Doug and stank toes all up in the brownies. Then Ms. Kia's astro-turf bedspread.

I've been watching Trading Spaces for at least a year and this had to have been the worst episode...aside from the one where the homeowner actually cried about her fireplace.

HopefulProspective 10-15-2002 05:21 PM

Kia's room...

Well, let's say I didn't like it :o

But the HO actually loved it. She logged onto the Trading Spaces bulletin board as "Gravelady" and actually admitted the only thing she changed was she brought her office stuff back in and changed the bed linens. The rest of the stuff she basically just moved around. She kept the astro turf as the carpet because she said it felt good under bare feet!

She did admit that she wished Kia could have been more original since she already had a floral room in her house (she is really big on theme rooms). But I guess she was going for something Kia knew the homeowner would like.

Doug's room was definately one of his worst. I believe I liked his pullman car better than that his cozy cabin room. But, his homeowners also logged on and said they loved their room and basically have left it as is. Go figure.

O.k. Hopeful...why did I just think you called someone a "ho"?? I was like dang .....what is that all about!?!?!? LOL HO = Home Owner :)

I fell asleep during this episode after they were outside putting the flowers on the astroturf bedspread and Paige kept asking them what they were doing. I just could not stand it any more!! When Kia had the nerve to get a bit stank about Paige's question I just rolled over. She is truly pitiful!!

ClassyLady 10-16-2002 10:12 AM

Okay, I just saw this episode yesterday at 4 pm. It was just bad all around.

Let's start with Doug. He is an arrogant, childish jerk. He cannot face constructive criticism and is only out to please himself. He never makes any concessions to his team and rarely gives the homeowners what they want or even something that they can work with. His room was awful. First of all, cowprint was only in for about three seconds in 1998. Let it go.

I actually liked the treatment on the walls. His attitude when his team questioned him about the walls was completely uncalled for. Are you that offended that someone would dare question your (frequently poor) judgement? The wood was tacky but that was what they wanted. I think that the red accessories looked good against the wall color. But, leaving those couches green, bad move. It didn't even look like the room had been professionally done.

Kia, Kia, Miss Kia. I have tried so hard to like you but your style is extremely wack. I hate to say it because I was so happy to have you on the show. It is now official, you are worse than Frank. Number one, I hate theme rooms that look like theme rooms. Just because you make something at home does not mean that it has to look homemade. That room looked like something off of that home decorating commercial for Wal-Mart. "First, you pick a paint color and then you put up a fun little border." That must have been where Kia got her idea from. When Paige said she spent $900, I was floored. That room could have been done for $100.

Just let me know where to sign up because I LOVE Vern. No one on Trading Spaces even comes close to him as far as design, originality, and sophistication. And as an example of his versitility, in one recent episode, he designed a room that wasn't really "Him" and didn't display his usual style in an effort to please the homeowners and it was still GORGEOUS.

NOWorNEVER 10-20-2002 07:43 PM

Kia...again

Oh yeah...in case I haven't said this enough - Kia sux! Ok, I'm through.

Bamboozled 10-28-2002 01:55 PM

Kia, Kia, Kia.....

Lord, just take me now....

What the hell is wrong with Kia? In three out of three episodes, she's INSISTED on using border. I just don't get it. I'm not even going to discuss the border anymore. But, I have to give it to Kia. The bedroom she did was less disasterous than the others, and that's not saying much. I was able to tolerate her room UNTIL I saw the plan for the bed. How in the devil is one supposed to sleep in a bed suspended from the ceiling with chains? God forbid you want to get your groove on. How does that work? And the homeowner mentioned that she was under 5'0" tall. How is she supposed to get into the bed? I am so over Kia at this point.

Meanwhile in Hildi's room..... I actually loved Hildi's room for the little boy. My only concern was the rock climbing wall. Good concept, but I think it raises some saftey concerns. Hopefully, the parents won't actually allow him to climb on the wall.

Okay, now on to the other episode. I have one word for y'all: HILDI. What in the world was she thinking? How could she possibly think that those girls would enjoy a floor to ceiling mural of her face? I don't think I've ever seen anything more vain. And it was hideous to boot. Luckily for those girls, the rest of the room was nice, so all they have to do is paint over Hilde's huge mug and the room can be rectified. The homeowners truly looked horrified.

And Frank's room..... typical Frank. Purple walls, red ceiling? I think not. His room was so boring and not that different from the original that it's not even worth discussing. *Yawn*

Yeah, I know I need a life. LOL.
