For the Soul Train rebuttal...
Um...NO. The whole thing is stupid. In its ENTIRETY! The second paragraph is the longest run-on sentence EVER. They use the first like 3 paragraphs totally BASHING BET/BET.com, then proceed to say they have the utmost respect. Then they say this: "the recipient of an annual Aretha Franklin Award for "Entertainer of the Year," does not require that the honoree sound like Aretha Franklin, look like Aretha Franklin, have as many hits as Aretha Franklin or, even remotely, resemble Aretha Franklin, in terms of overall stature and reputation, to even the smallest degree..." Then why on EARTH name it after ARETHA FRANKLIN??? What kinda sh--ty boo boo?? And how UNprofessional is the last sentence??? And as for the "White-owned" statements...please. Over 16,000 people have signed the petition. I don't think anyone of them are "OWNED" by anyone. We just all agree that Ashanti is NOT worthy of this award's namesake. UGH! |
I appluad Soul Train's decision to stick with Ashanti's nomination--*the girl did have the highest selling debut album by a woman,
*she was the first to have 4FOUR4 singles on the Billboard charts at the same time *and I heard on the radio that she wrote all the songs on her album (something not even Mary or Alicia Keys can boast) and she wrote J-Lo's Ain't it funny It's been a pretty quiet year for female artists in R/B/Hip Hop. I think with all of her achievements this year, a nomination doesn't deserve such uproar. But I do have to admit that Soul Train's rebuttal statement was in poor taste, especially the attacks/praise on BET. |

 I think we all need to start a new petition ASAP. The purpose of it will be to fire everyone in the public/media relations department as well as everyone in the editing department at Soul Train. Y'all just don't understand that after I read the response, I just KNEW that it was NOT representative of Soul Train. That is until I clicked on a few of the other links and to my HORROR, I realized that this is the real thing. This is disturbing on so many levels. I'll only comment on three. 1. GRAMMAR. Ok, I, have never, seen so many, misplaced commas, in my life (please note the sarcasm in using all these commas. I'm not a hypocrite). I mean, someone is obsessive compulsive with the commas. There's just no need for all that. Then, what's up with all the runonrunonrunonrunon sentences? And PLEASE don't use "big" words incorrectly. 2. TONE. I felt like I was reading a 5th grader's response to what one of her two-faced(ed, lol) girlfriends wrote about her in her slam book (y'all remember those?). How many times can you use the words "stupid", "idiot" and "moron" and still consider your article to be professional? And this last line ... "I'm a _______ loser, I'm not talented or successful, I don't know ____ about the music industry and I need to get a _______life!!" I won't even waste my time commenting on it. Lawwwd, help them now. 3. CONTINUITY. I'll let the quotes do the talking. First they say: What looms as even more strange, under the circumstances, but not totally unexpected, is the fact that white-owned BET.com, a notable subsidiary of white-owned Black Entertainment Television (BET), is, currently, not only providing, ongoing, publicity to this Internet farce but white-owned BET.com has, quite inexplicably so, also volunteered itself as a provider of link-up information services for any BET.com visitors wishing to become signers of the hate petition involved, by, openly and deliberately, directing such visitors to www.petitiononline.com; thus adding weight and to some degree, its own, unique, credibility to the purposeful and gratuitous "Black on Black" hatred being circulated. Can you believe that's all ONE sentence??? Then... ...and the managers of an organization, so soul-music-connected, such as white-owned BET or BET.com, whichever you prefer, and which so voraciously devours music videos from artists like Ashanti, as the main source of its overall programming concept, is, most certainly, aware of the absolute fact that, in terms of her achievements and successes, during the past, approximately 1 year period, Ashanti, clearly, ranks far ahead of any other African-American, female solo artist or music group. And the contradiction commences.... For the record, we have the utmost respect for BET and all that its talented management team has accomplished, but the fact remains, however, that no person or entity, not even BET, can "have it both ways." We, therefore, must extend to you, BET, albeit, with a kind and admiring heart, our gravest admonishment, for your, ostensibly, loving Black recording artists, such as Ashanti, for providing BET with their exciting music videos and generally, supporting your programming channel and all of its special music programming and Awards specials. Either be upset about it and talk ish or don't. As y'all can see, this article bothered me to the utmost and I could care less about Ashanti, BET or Soul Train. Bad writing, however, is inexcusable. **Eliminated the cussing which is why I only had a link to the article.:) ~~CT4 |
Clearly, Librasoul and I were posting at the same time, thus the redundancy. I wasn't biting her thoughts, I swear ;) .

A soror sent me the response to the petition and I skimmed it at first and when I got to the last sentence, my reaction was clearly   it reminded me of that fake R. Kelly article that soror Pebbles posted a couple of months ago. So when I went to soul train's website and saw that it was real, I couldn't take it. I did not even bother to read it and pass along my opinion, I just wanted you all to reach your own conclusion. Had I bothered to read the whole thing, I might have submitted a petition for GRAMMAR and PUNCTUATION REMEDIATION ASAP for SOUL TRAIN EMPLOYEES taught by Ms. CT4.:p :p

Don't be surprised if we hear booos when she receives her award. LMAO.
I remember one year at the ST Awards, Whitney was booed. |
Why did they play the race card?? I just know that little letter didn't make it to Don Cornelius' desk. But I can see Shemar Moore writing its' rough draft lol

Well, you know what they say about great minds, lol. ;) Cricket. Four hits huh? How many of them were actually credited to Ashanti? And NOT Fat Joe? And NOT Ja Rule? Ahhh...brings that number down, huh? I actually bought her album because I heard that she wrote her own songs, and I respect that. I liked the first song okay, but wasn't fanatical over it. Straight jacked a beat, that is uncreative to me. I will admit that the writing on Foolish was good. However, the rest of the album, writing-wise, performance-wise, and otherwise was MEDIOCRE at best. And J-Lo's song was not really her best work. "Trying to blind me with your bling-bling/Thought I toldja love don't cost a thing..." Um...okay. Please understand, that Ashanti is okay. I am not really upset at HER. I am upset at the HYPOCRISY pf Soul Train. When she gets booed, it is gonna be kinda sad really, because I think alot of people feel the same way. Sucks that she has to be in the middle of it. |
