Physical Education Requirment
I see that a lot of you from the US are taking a physical education class. Is this required and is this normal at most universities and colleges in the US? Up here we don't have classes like that.

I think it depends on the school. I have friends who go to the larger state schools, and PE is only an option for them. However, for me I am required to take TWO PE classes. One has to be a physical activity and another has to be the health class. It's a pain, and I wish I didn't have to do it. Does anyone else think it's stupid to be required to take PE as a 20 year old? I really doubt taking ultimate frisbee is going to help me become a successful Speech Pathologist! (Sorry I had to vent on that one. I think the process is stupid. :()

PE isn't a requirement or...
us, at least I don't think so. I'm so clueless I never checked it out. LOL. It may very well be because practically everyone I know is taking some type of PE class (Well at least the younger ones like me). I can see how it being required can be good, but also I guess you shouldn't be forced to do it either. But, its always interesting to learn something new--maybe you'll enjoy it.

I know in Canada, or at least I'm almost positive that universities and colleges don't offer PE as a credit course. If you want physical activity you can join the gym, or take an interest class in your spare time. Even in highschool PE or Gym as we call it was only mandatory in grade 9. I do think it's kind of odd that PE can be a credit course. But it can be a good thing too because most university students are sedintary so getting some sort of excersise can help reduce stress and keep off that freshman 15.

See if you could guess what my majors are after I list all my classes! Since I am junior this year and done with all my Rutgers requirements (except for one which is the one class in my schedule that sticks out like a sore thumb in comparison to all the other ones) all my classes are for major requirements.
Alright this is what I am taking: -Political Science Research Methods (3) -Topics in Political Science: Rational Choice Models (3) -Spanish American Literature (3) -Hispanic Bilingualism (3) -Theatre Apperciation (3) So what are my majors? Which class does not belong? Well you should def have guessed Political Science. The other one is tricky but if you guessed Spanish that is correct! Yea, I know I am a Spanish/ Poli Sci major but I figure it could land me good international or government type jobs that are hot now. Then theres Theatre Apperciation which yes I am taking to fufill my last RU requirements. Thats a really fun class because you get to go to plays and even get to see a Broadway show towards the end! |
English Literature Before 1800 (Beowulf and the Canterbury Tales, eurgh)
Nutrition Today (mostly a blowoff class, but it gets me my biological science credits so I'm happy) American Government & Politics Shakespeare Survey It's only 14 credits but I took 17 each for the past two semesters so I can afford to slack off this time. |
- PRINCIPLES OF MACROCONOMICS
- FRESHMAN READING & COMPOSITION II (I'M TAKING THIS A LITTLE LATE :D ) - SURVEY OF BRITTISH LIT I (BEG-18TH CENTURY) - HISTORY OF THE U.S. SINCE 1865 II - HISTORY OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION SINCE 1648 - MUSIC APPRECIATION |
Let's see...
Computer Art Typography II Intro to Digital Imaging Principle Publication Design Middle Easter Societies and Culture (cake GE class so I have heard) And my personal favorite for the semester: Voice for Musical Theater. It counts towards absolutly nothing but when you are a senior Graphic Design student... you need something to relive the pressure. Referring the PE classes: At my school we offer lots of 1 unit sporty classes. We offer some 2 unit dance classes and then 3 unit academic classes to fulfill the "PE requirement." however you need 3 units total and only one of those units can be an "activity class"... basically the sporty classes. So you are basically stuck taking a 3 unit academic course to fulfill that need. People usually take RLS 100 or 122 which are cake classes... the teacher doesn't care if you show up to class. On a side note: any other GPHD majors out there? What do you wanna do after graduation? If you know yet... PM me if you can. |

I'm a freshman and luckily, my highschool AP test scores let me skip out on tons of classes!
This quarter I'm taking: - English (its the only quarter of English I have to take because of APs) - Poly Sci Lecture/Discussion on the politics of underdeveloped nations - French I have classes Mon- Friday... I hate how the Poly Sci class is one topic, but two classes, and only 4 credits all together! XOXO, Annie. |
