don't you get an information leaflet with every box of birth control pills? here in holland you get one, containing information on how to use 'm, do's and don'ts, what to do when you forgot one and possible side effects! all the info you need should be in there.
if you stick by those rules your chances of getting pregnant are below 0.1%

well it came out negative but its so early that im no more comforted than before she even took it but she is and thats good cause shes been real stressed out about stuff. tom - no words can express my sympasthy and hootie im sorry to hear that you didnt mean to get pregnant and did. i hope we dont. everyone has been real supportive on here which helps cause im scared to talk to my friends or family about it. thanx.

Yes, it is early but I am pretty sure those tests are accurate when administered a week after conception may have taken place. I don't want to tell you for sure that she's not pregnant but I think that you can relax a little bit more.
When girls have been on the pill for a while and they are regularly taking it, their chances of getting pregnant are very slim.
Might I suggest that you tell her to visit a gynecologist? They can do a blood test which is 100% (or close to) in pregnancy detection. That way, you will know for sure whether she is or isn't.

Ok first of all its obvious (no offense) that some of these posts are from guys. So I'm going to feel like the sex ed teacher here but I thought you guys might want the record straight. First of all you CAN get pregnant when menstruating, many times the egg is still around even when a girl is ragging it.

SigmaChiCard- You're basically fucked if you think that there is a 10 day period after the girl has her period when she is safe. I know for a fact that for 14 days AFTER a girls period she's in danger of getting pregnant. You are safer a couple days before.

twinstars- A GIRL DOES OVULATE WHEN ON THE PILL!!!!! WHY DO YOU THINK SHE GETS HER PERIOD THEN???? The only way you can not ovulate is if you get the Depo shots but if you are on the pill you ovulate hence the bleeding every month.

UF_Pike- It actually DOES matter when she takes the pill everyday. The whole point of it is to be regular with the pill because if you do miss it that's how your chances of pregnancy increases. Granted you are suppose to have a 2 hour safety bracket in case you do miss you regular time but why risk it?

ktsnake- The morning after pill (if you dont go through insurance and go to a family planning center) is soemwhere between 30-80 dollars. the pill goes anywhere from free to 30 bucks.

Incidentally...where does your vast knowledge that allows you to be a sexpert derive from in the first place? Secondly, given your 100% correct, there IS a way to give information in a constructive manner rather than through the means of degrading others...I'm seldom offended, but this is once when I am....

Uhm, actually the way most pills work (specifically combination and progesterone) is by preventing ovulation most of the time. At only about 3% of the time does a woman actually ovulate.
A woman does not actually menstruate when shes on the pill but still sheds a lining similar to that of a monthly period(i think, maybe one of the med students/nurses/doctors on the board could correct me if thats wrong)

You do not ovulate when you are on the pill. When we say ovulate we mean that an egg is released. The pill is supposed to prevent this from happening. Of course there will be a few exceptions such as when a pill is missed or taken late.

I can't believe you said "ragging it". I never thought words like that would come out of a woman's mouth. I find that to be offensive and disgusting.

The uterus doesn't know that no egg is being released from the ovaries. It sheds its lining every month anyway. All it knows is that you're not pregnant. And please chill out, I'm almost positive that you're wrong and you're just making yourself look dumb and rude. Would you like to explain how the pill stops pregnancy, if it doesn't stop ovulation? You know all kinds of stuff about sex ed so I'm sure you can give a good, detailed explanation.

Sorry if my comments offended anyone. This is just a subject that had come up recently with some friends. I've seen my share of girls and guys be misinformed and have had to suffer the consequences.

To be honest, I think that most of the guys that have posted in this thread know more than you seem to know, I think you need to go to sex ed again. You bash SCC, you could have just informed him instead of saying "you're basically F*cked." And correction your part because if a girl can get pregnant while menstrating, she is ALWAYS in danger of getting pregnant, not like the 14 days after in which you suggest. Hence, you are never safe, there is always the risk.

As for ovulating, um, hello, that's what the pill is for, to help prevent ovulation. A woman will ovulate on the pill if she isn't using it correctly (taking it different times of the day, skipping days, etc.) and the rare case of the pill not preventing ovualtion, other than that, that is one of the reasons for the pill, from what I believe and have been told anyway. A woman will still get her period because her system is still "flushing out" so to speak. An egg might not be present, but the rest of the elements that are included in a woman's period are, hence, she will still have a period. I think maybe you need to do a little reasearch about yourself before you continue to post about nonsense.

As for the morning after pill and your rudeness to ktsnake. Hell, it might be more expensive than birth control, but if you aren't certain and if it might be a wise decision to get it, get it. Some women can't take the pill for various health reasons/risks. I know my sister was on the pill to help control her period and it actually became worse. It happens, but not often.

Yes, I am no doctor, I am no nurse, but my sister is a nursing assistant and has worked with birth control and volunteers at a local Planned Parenthood for the last two years. Moreso, from her actual experience of the pill, and from the experience of many of my other female friends, I feel that what I know is somewhat truthful.

While you make this claim, you too seem to be misinformed. Again, try doing your research before attempting to be the "sex education savior" of the thread and failing said task miserably.

I just have a question.. Is taking a pregnacy test about a week and a half after you have had sex is that to early to tell if you are pregnant? And if it is what is a good time to take one to be sure?
