I'm the very 1st Greek in my immediate family.... Alpha Phi! My parents both had the stereotypical view of greeks but hearing about all of the philanthropy work and sisterhood activities my chapter does is starting to change that. But my 1st cousin who is a year older than me is an Alpha Xi Delta. My little bro will be off to college next fall... so far no interest in Greek life but we'll see!

I'm the only greek in my immediate family. My cousin was an Alpha Chi Omega at Vanderbilt and her sister (also my cousin) is an Alpha Sigma Tau at Oglethorpe in Atlanta. My younger sister (who is only 5) will definitely be an AXO if I have any say! :)

My mom is a Delta Zeta and my dad is a Pi Lamda Phi. It's funny, when I started college I refused to Rush - my mom really thought I should go through it, but I refused. A year and a half later, after getting to know a bunch of the Kappa girls and going thru Informal Rush, I had to call her and say I had gotten a bid. :) I'm sorry that I didn't take her advice, maybe I would have found my home at Kappa a bit earlier and had more time to spend with my wonderful sisters!

I have to say that I am the first Greek in my family. I have a first cousin on my Dad's side who was a Delta Zeta at the University of San Francisco and she kind of persuaded me to rush in a way.
My parents had stereotypical views on the Greek system, but let me do it. My mom actually went through Rush, but decided not to do it. After coming to Parent's Weekend and seeing how it has changed me for the better and hearing my views and seeing my work within Phi Delt and IFC, my parents support me and the greek system. |
Mom: Sigma Kappa
My moms sisters are: Delta Zeta and Alpha Chi Omega and her brother was in a fraternity but I for get which one. Me: Pi Beta Phi |
For the size of my family there's only about 9 of us who were greek. No one that I can think of on my mother's side of the family (she's one of 12!) were greek in college!
Me: Alpha Omicron Pi My dad: member of a professional/law fraternity, unsure which One aunt: Sigma Kappa, her daughters are alumnae of Phi Mu and Tri Delta (I think but can't remember) Another female cousin in Pi Beta Phi. One uncle: Phi Kappa Tau, his sons are both Phi Taus, all alumnae of the same chapter at U of Louisville. I have one of my dad's old college yearbook from the 40s, with my aunt's Sigma Kappa pictures in it. Pretty darned cool family memento. Christin |

I just found out that my dad was in Phi Omega Mu in the Philippines, a coed-fraternity (they called it con something?) He laughed and told me he only joined to drink with his buddies and meet girls. Weird.
