Ok yall..........These stereotypes are too funny! With all of the shades, sizes, cultural differences and careers that we(D9 sororities) share, where do the stereotypes come from!

The gag was the one about "can't dance." Now that's just plain dumb!;)

5) We pledge for 365 days

6) sorority rejects

I know this is old, but I love the thread. :p When I went to Norfolk State University with my brother`s ex girlfriend [who is an SGRho], I saw the most beautiful sisters stepping. There were only three of them, versus the 22 AKAs who preformed and the 13 or so Deltas [who kicked it as well] and they killed it. I took pictures with them, I wish I still had the flicks.. but man, they were amazingly beautiful and nice.. who made that lie up?! LOL.

GOALdigger 11-04-2008 12:52 PM

hey, did this happen cause I saw a youtube of us(sgrho) stepping in black with knee boots and wonder if that the same ones you talking about.

On and that cute thing. It's got to be a lie cause EYE know I'm cute.

I love these "stereotype" threads. I really wish people would come up with new/better stereotypes.

--sigma gamma who? Come on, we're college educated. Do better. My response is always "I know who I am, my sorors know who they are, so why don't you know who we are?"

--all fat/darkskinned/ugly: not only is this ridiculously false, it shows how much folks don't get out. And (not that this makes the stereotype any better), why isn't this pushed on other orgs? Greeks are a microcosm of people in general, so there's just as many AKA/DST/ZPhiB ugmugs floatin around.

--bookworms/all 4.0's: while that's an awesome thing if we all did, do you really think every sgrho gets straight A's? Were no idiots but we do hold scholastic achievement high, even if that means an occasional B or C.

--we pledge long/hard: see, is this supposed to make us appear "harder" therefore more respected? Or is this a detriment, because this makes us manly? Either way, its so unproductive to our image.

--were so secretive: umm its called discretion. Can't help that we got this.:) the fact that you don't know what is up means were on our biz and you're not minding yours.

A certain interested someone came to my chapter talking about that stereotype. She put the best spin on that that stereotype that I was like "I like you"

A Kappa boyfriend of hers said that we are highly intelligent. That was our only stereotype. It didn't hurt my feelings at all.

Cause when did being smart become a bad thing?:D

I'm glad you changed your mind about leaving your comment because I was about to let you have it. We can discuss anything we choose to in our forum and I'm sure you haven't gone through the thousands upon thousands of threads on GC to know if the other NPHC sororities have ever discussed stereotypes about themselves or not. It's not that serious for us...we can discuss this topic and laugh about it. Thanks for resurrecting an old thread.

DrPhil 06-03-2009 11:56 PM

I was wondering if he/she would change his/her mind. LOL.

rhoyaltempest's response makes me wonder what she would've said if the post hadn't been deleted.

We couldn't because she deleted her post too fast. She basically said the following (not verbatim of course):

Why are we discussing stereotypes about our org?...seems counterproductive. You don't see other sororities doing that (as if she would know what the many members on GC or otherwise discuss). Stereotypes do come from somewhere...yadda, yadda, yadda.

Then I guess she realized how very disrespectful she sounded and that she should stay in her lane before one of us e-chin checked her.:D

jojapeach 06-09-2009 12:04 AM

^^^ Thanks for the recap.

Counterpoint: Why would anyone feel the need to question someone else's discussion? You don't see other newbies doing that. :p

Hello soRHOrs,

Ok. Lets see if I can remember some of the crazy stereotypes of an SGRho

1. You have to gain 40+ pounds to become a member of Sigma Gamma Rho
2. No one has ever heard of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority. They think it was just created last year.
3. People think it's an Honor's Sorority
4. The only reason why Sigma Gamma Rho has a line is because AKA, Delta, or Zeta
did not want the girls on their line.
5. Nobody wants to be a Sigma Gamma Rho. They are nobodies.
6. Sigma Gamma Rhos are not pretty
7. Sigma Gamma Rhos only exist up north
8. Sigma Gamma Rho only has one or two girls to cross each year.
9. Sigma Gamma Rho has to beg for members
10. Sigma Gamma Rho and Kappa Alpha Psi are brother and sister (How do u explain the Indiana Love?) I had to argue people down over this!
