Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Middle Tennesee State too. They just created a brand new greek row, and by looking at their sites, the houses are huge, and well equipped. Check out the Beta House, it is seriously a castle:
MTSU Beta House The Beta House is the only house at MTSU equipped for a house mother, and the only house equipped with a commercial kitchen. This house has 28 bedrooms, and sleeps 41 guys. Check it out, its pretty sweet. |
Wow, all of these houses are gorgeous! One fact about fraternity row here at UMD is the opening scene of St. Elmo's Fire was filmed there. One house I love here is the KD house. It's beautiful and called the KD Castle. It's the only sorority house that isn't the traditional brick with white columns. The link below shows some of the houses, the row, and lots of Maryland Greeks having a good time.

Also check Theta Delta Chi house at UC Berkeley. The Graduate (movie, 1967) took one scene at the beautiful house.
Click here to see the homepage. Is all Berkeley houses as beautiful as that? I really admire the ivy covering the house has. |
Naaaahhh... not all. the houses in Berkely are that nice.. some of the others are very nice and some of them are very plain and not kept up well... and they are not organized in a "greek row" they are all scattered about the neighborhood.
|
Yes it rocks! All the houses here are pretty awesome. Beta has a great dance floor, too, and they have pretty awesome parties! They had a foam/Animal House party a couple weeks ago which was pretty cool. Hopefully within the next 2 years we'll have sorority houses on the "2nd Greek Row" here. Yay! I can't wait! :)

OSU FIJI house
Oregon State University Greek row is 2 blocks long and 2 blocks wide. It has about 14 houses in the area, with another 4 or 5 just off the main strip. The FIJI house looks like this: [/URL] OSU FIJI HOUSE

The Chi Omega house at LSU is particularly beautiful. Its modeled after an 18th century plantation and is located opposite a lake. All of sorority row borders a meandering drive on the LSU lakes. The houses are gorgeous.

At the State University of West Georgia, Boykin Hall houses the 6 NPC groups. Last year, the Univ. insisted that each sorority be financially responsible for 25 beds. And if 1 group wants to move out, all will probably have to move out.
They have been talking about a fraternity row for decades since Greeks went national in the early 70's. Sort of a double standard, fraternities can have houses but sororities can't unless everyone moves out of Boykin. With all the hassles of house-owning, the sororities probably never will. The AGD house at Georigia Tech is really cute..after major renovations in 1996. It was the home of a famous sculptor, Julian Harris who's "test animal" stone carvings can be found around the house/yard. |
I'll agree with whoever said that the University of Alabama's greek row is gorgeous. The houses to me (especially the sorority houses) are "classic" and just what you would picture when thinking of Old South Greek life.
ZTAngel---I think that UCF has a very unique Greek set up. The sorority houses are very pretty and unique..not quite what I'm used to when thinking about Greek housing. But some of the fraternities... What's up with the old apartment buildings turned fraternity house?? When I saw those buildings with huge painted letters on them I had to laugh. (No offense meant to anyone in those orgs but it was a pretty random set up) FSU didn't have a "row" The houses were spread all around campus. One street had many of the sorority houses but they were still spread out from each other. The sorority houses at FSu are pretty, in my opinion. The fraternity houses (with the exception of a few) are not in such great shape. Auburn also has some very nice fraternity houses...especially the new ones. There is an "old" row and a "new" row, but even some of the houses on the old row have been redone. Auburn has sorority dorms...there is some rule about not being allowed to have houses. I wonder if that will ever change. Land around campus isn't exaclty plentiful though, so I would have to guess probably not. Anyone know anything about that? |
I know San Francisco has some kind of law or something that says that 7 or more women living in a house is a brothel, so we aren't allowed to have houses.
Also in San Fran land is VERY VERY expensive. It would cost about a million to build houses like some of the ones I've seen on this thread around our campus, just because of the cost of land here in Cali, so I don't think it's ever going to happen. =( |
