We wear our letters twice a week at least. Our school has an activity hour every tuesday and thursday where there are no classes and everyone is in the student union. Our chapter sets the rules each semester. Usually tuesday casual letters & thursday shirt and tie w/ a pin or some type of letters. We usually try to wear letters to meetings (ie SGA, BSA, NAACP, etc). And of course on road trips letters are a must and usually one's with our chapter on them.

That quilt idea is so cute! We wear our letters a lot, so we have lots of t-shirts and sweatshirts and jackets, and when people go alum, they donate their old shirts (especially the ones we use for rush parties) to a box for the new members and they get to take what they want out of there. I got a ton of shirts that way, and I'll probably donate some of my old ones back for someone else.

Another thing I've heard of people doing with their old t-shirts is making throw pillows out of them. I thought that was cute too. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

The instructions for making the quilt yourself are online at Kappa's nat'l site. Here's the link:

I did wear my hat sometimes though and you did see other guys from other Fraternities that did that too. I'd say the sororities at Mason represented the most as far as wearing Letters. The guys tended to wear them less and often times it was the newer brothers that tended to wear them. Unless we had a specific day where we would all wear them. We have a pretty big greek school. Last time I checked it was 16 Fraternties and 6 Sororites.

Wow, 22 GLO's is a lot for such a young school! I didn't know GMU had that many. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

Here at Georgia Southern University ...sorority girls where the jerseys every wednesday or for big events...the rest we end up wearing sorority tees anyway...I carry an AOII bag to class I always where my pendant, ring, and bracelet...and I have everything from AOII agendas to sweatshirts to jackets ...Here in the south wearing your letters in huge...we sport them anyway we can all the time...

When I was at my undergraduate college we used to wear our letters like once a week, some fraternities we thought the guys only had jerseys, cause that's all they'd where.

I had to laugh today though, cause at my summer job I wore my jersey on casual day and my boss said "you're a Sigma Chi, man we hated those guys when I was in college, I am a Phi Kappa Tau... we laughed about it for a while and shared some interesting stories....

at cleveland state university, most of the greek organization ( both bglo's and glo's ) wear their letters on a fairly consistant basis. while I can't speak for my Chapter, I wear my letters All the time http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif

At UofM-Dearborn we wear our letters as much as possible, well at least I do! One of the chapters has a thing where they wear them every Monday (our meeting nites), and my chapter wears them every 3rd Monday. The fraternities wear them all the time. We're not allowed to wear them when we drink, so you never see sorority letters at parties, and rarely ever at the bar.

Illinois State (shout out to gammazetagirl at NIU http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif We wore block letters on Wednesday, and party t's and stuff ALL THE TIME. Heck, when you have events every weekend and t-shirts for all of them, how can you NOT have one for every day of the week! LOL! We had a pretty casual campus (read: flannels, jeans were dressing up) so t-shirts were the norm.

I go to school in San Luis Obispo (Southern California) and I know a lot of greeks in SoCal, and it seems that we don't wear our letters as much as other regions. I know at Poly, we wear our letters on Thursdays, most greeks do, and for bid day, revealing, and other special greek days. Most guys don't wear block letters, only girls do, the guys think they are gay. Thetas like to wear their letters a lot, because we are proud!!! You will always find a Theta with her lavalier on. Most Greek girls have decals/license plate holders with their affiliations. The only guys that really wear a lot of lettered stuff are Pike and Lambda Chi's...most guys just wear t-shirts from sorority/fraternity events.

In general, people wear Cal Poly logo items above Greek ones...at UCLA, my friends that are Thetas just don't see the need to wear letters all the time, which I guess is the sentiment of the campus.

Down here, in Miami, FL, you'll find greek letters everywhere. On campus, mostly everyone who is greek wears their letters on event shirts, tote bags, lavaliers, jerseys (with "block letters", which are the stitched kind), baby tees, and any other thing you can put letters on. The frats are pretty good about wearing their letters, but most of the time, you'll see them wearing shirts from rush or events. Whether you're at the gym or at the mall, chances are you'll see some sort of representation of Greek life. Car window stickers and tag frames are also really popular (You'll find them on the road all the time.)The point is, you earn your letters so you should be proud to wear them. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

At Southern Ill. Uni. - Carbondale we all wear our letters. The school is a meager 6-8% greek so its not that many ppl. My house isn't allowed to wear letters while drinking though.

People at Pitt wear their letters like its going out of fashion :) Its a sign of a proud greek, and I know for me, a sign of achievement. We call them billboard letters because your basically advertising your sorority. And at least, in my chapter, we have one day a week when we wear our letters. I remember being so proud when I was able to actually wear my letters as a NI. Most people have the whole she-bang: Lavileres, letters, letters on bags, letters on windbreakers, even butt letters. Plus for my birthday I got and ultracute bracelet with engraving. To bad I have to disiffiliate to be a rho chi!! Im gonna go into letter-withdrawl!!

Have any of you noticed that a lot of the more popular Greek Stores seem to be putting out Greek Para that we would have worn in high school? Or as KDChick said more stylish in the 80's.

Although a couple of places seem to be putting out some nice tasteful stuff. It seems that people are even more style conscious than ever in the new milennia, maybe that has something to do with the wearing of Greek Para?

Miami1839 08-25-2001 06:24 PM

Yeah, it sure is. Isnt it awesome. Our administration is pretty anti greek also. Some Fraternties are more solid than others. I remember Sigma Chi, Pike, and Sig Ep having the biggest numbers. My chapter was really strong for 10 years and we had to close unfortunately. But hopefully we'll back back to George Mason sometime in the future. :) I dont think anyone should go through the feeling of seeing their charter pulled. It was pretty disheartening. But anyways, I'll give you a low down of the chapters at my school when I graduated. (1997)

Fraternities:

Beta Theta Pi
Kappa Sigma
Alpha Chi Rho
Pi Kappa Alpha
Sigma Chi
Alpha Kappa Lamda
Sigma Phi Epsilon
Phi Kappa Sigma
Pi Kappa Phi
Kappa Alpha
Sigma Nu
Theta Chi
Tau Kappa Epsilon
Chi Phi
There might have been a few others but these are what I remember

Sororities:

Chi Omega
Alpha Omicron Pi
Alpha Phi
Gamma Phi Beta
Zeta Tau Alpha
Phi Mu
Alpha Xi Delta(came on campus after I graduated)
