I think you're right about the fact that it's currently just a chapter thing, because I know a lot of Sigmas still go by Tri Sig. HOWEVER, crazyleggedsigma is absolutely correct when she says that we do not like to go by Tri Sig. As a whole organization, we are trying to get away from that nickname. Apparently there is a gay fraternity that calls itself Tri Sig and although we've been around much longer, we're trying to get away from the nickname because we don't want to be confused with another organization. Tri Sigma would be the correct nickname. :) |
Thank you, SSS 1365, for clearing that up! We have a hard time convincing our campus of this, and several of our new memebers use it (hey, they just received their bids yesterday--they haven't learned it all yet! :D ) as an abbreviation. If we keep our efforts up, maybe we will rid the universe of the phrase! ;)

Correction for your Delta Gamma listing...
DELTA GAMMA:
Founded: Dec 1873, Lewis School in Oxford, Mississippi Flower: cream colored rose Mascot: Hannah (Hannah used to be represented by a Raggedy Ann doll, until HASBRO got all itchy about trademarks, etc.) Jewel: pearls and diamonds -------------------------------------------- Also, one thing, I wanted to mention regarding Alpha Omicron Pi. It is actually considered incorrect to write "AOPi"...the correct way to write it (in short form) is AOII (nitpicky, I know, but it is on their website).... Source: http://www.alphaomicronpi.org/conten...cies/term.html "Alpha," "Omicron," and "Pi" are the Greek letters standing for our motto. Alpha Omicron Pi also has a shortened form of its name by which it is known: AOII. This is written in the form "AOII" using the Greek symbol "II" and not "Pi." To do otherwise would be grammatically incorrect in mixing styles of letters. This is kind of interesting too....AOII has no shield/crest.... http://www.alphaomicronpi.org/conten...raditions.html AOII believes that the Fraternity has an essentially Greek heritage, and not one of medieval or Masonic background. Thus it does not have a shield or a crest as a symbol. Shields and Crests: After years of discussions at Convention, Alpha Omicron Pi adopted the established policy and tradition that the Fraternity which has an essentially Greek heritage and not one of medieval or Masonic background would never have a shield or crest as a symbol. Our feeling of reverence and as a protection of our one sign, the monogram of our essential motto, is established as traditional. Any decal or other symbol resembling a crest or shield should not be purchased. |
Sorry to be Nit-picky...
The Official name of Delta Gamma's Philanthropy is "Service for Sight" - we work to aide both the blind and sight impaired
But the sight is great! :D ibcrankieDG |
Phi Sig's Philanthropy
Phi Sigma Sigma's national phil is not the Phi Sigma foundation.
Unless I'm incorrect, I believe it is the National Kidney Foundation. :) I'd check their page though... Always, Jessica ' |

Jonez,
thanks for correcting me on the june rose. I always thought that our flower "the queen of the prarie variety" was a red rose. But its not. Thanks :) I guess my memory is getting bad. I do know our colors are delicate shades of pink and blue. Kevin Epsilon Mu #106 George Mason '97 (email: scrappy25@hotmail.com) |

Your site is awesome! I had one general comment and one specific comment. My general comment is really nitpicky: many of the NPC groups call themselves fraternities, not sororities and are International rather than national. For example, Alpha Phi is Alpha Phi International Fraternity.
My specific comment is that Alpha Phi's philanthropy is just "The Alpha Phi Foundation." It does not only support cardiac care. For more specific information, please visit: www.alphaphi.org/info.html. Here is the basic information on the foundation from that page: Alpha Phi Foundation Information The Alpha Phi Foundation, founded in 1956, was established eighty-four years after the Fraternity. The Foundation, in fact, is a separate organization from the Fraternity and has its own officers, its own staff, and its own board of directors. The Foundation was seen then, and is seen now, as being necessary to plan for the Fraternity of tomorrow. The Fraternity and the Foundation work hand in hand. The mission of the Foundation is to encourage the highest ideal of womanhood and service; serve the educational mission of Alpha Phi; and be the premier philanthropy for the causes of women. To those ends, the Alpha Phi Foundation supports educational and leadership programs, offers scholarships, assists women in crisis, recognizes outstanding cardiac care and research programs, supports community organizations and awards outstanding college professors. I love your site and think you are doing an outstanding job! |
