It was released in 1957 on the B side of a single, enjoyed a little popularity on the west coast, and then faded from sight (or hearing), except for in the Pacific Northwest. Robin Roberts and the Wailers of Seattle revived and recorded it in 1961, but they didn't make it a hit either.
Interesting tid-bit for you, Louie Louie never lost it's popularity on the west coast, in fact we tried to make it our state song in Washington in the mid 80's! To most of us growing up here, we always took it as our unofficial state song. and i found out out state motto for the first time today: Alki - By and by. Not the greatest, but we have a good unofficial song!

We had this huge discussion with a couple of my friends who were delts that claimed that the movie was based on them and we didnt believe him. Of course he also tried to tell us it was based on our school. But I think every small liberal arts school tries to say the school in Animal House is their school because all liberal arts schools look and seem the same.

Anyways we went online and proved him wrong except on the website we went to it said the writers were Alpha Delta Pis (clearly not true :) ). And when the delts realized they were wrong they made up their rush shirts that year with "COLLEGE" on the front and on the back and it had that infamous picture of beluchi with the college shirt on and it said "7 years of college down the drain...I should have rushed DTD"

Peter Reigert (Boon) was a longtime boyfriend of Bette Midler and appeared in the TV remake of Gypsy with her. (they both blew the movie actors away, IMO)

Hulce should have won that year - he was outstanding in Amadeus, F. Murray Abraham came away with an Oscar and Hulce's performance was just as good.

Tim Matheson went on to a long career too, recently on The West Wing as the Vice President.

Wow. After reading all this I'm laughing pretty hard-
There's been a long standing urban legend that the fraternity was based on the Lambda Chi's at Mizzou.

Now I'm pretty sure that isn't true, lol!
