My apologies to Hawaiians if that's how it came across. That wasn't my intention. What I was trying to say is that given that there is one NPC chapter in the whole state and that other states are geographically distant, someone who grew up in Hawaii wouldn't know many peers personally who were sorority women. The personal stories she would have heard from people she knew and trusted must be lower than that of a girl who grew up in a state with many NPC chapters. That's all I'm saying. She may not have had the benefit of someone describing a similar situation and then following it with "but it was no big deal. I just told them I didn't want to do the shots and that was the end of it." Those kind of stories are important for giving you the frame of mind that it's okay to say no in a situation that makes you uncomfortable.
Greek, House Bunny, Legally Blonde… those don't provide the same level of assurance and may even reinforce the idea that you need to go along with whatever is happening to you.
